Book Review: Resisting the Brit

Resisting the Brit (Dirty Hot Resistance, #1)Resisting the Brit by Emelia Blair
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

She couldn’t resist him long!

Lana and Oliver meet at the office when Oliver comes in as CEO to cut dead weight. After trying to resist him for a while, she gives in and sleeps with the beautiful Brit. There’s a little family drama that keeps the story interesting and rounds out this romance.

I wouldn’t really call this an enemies to lovers romance, but there is some tension in the beginning...sexual tension!!

There are solid sex scenes in the beginning of this book, but none in the end. I would have appreciated on final scene at the end.

This book was a 3.5 and I round up for the author’s benefit. There are tons of grammar issues, but the writing is pretty good. Give this one a shot! Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: Resisting the CEO

Resisting the CEO (Dirty Hot Resistance #2)Resisting the CEO by Emelia Blair
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

0 resistance to love

Caleb has secrets from his past. The biggest secret is the girl, Kendall, who he lost, but finds many years later and hires as his assistant. She doesn’t recognize him right away, but starts having suspicions that Caleb isn’t who he says he is.

In this book we find out how much heart Caleb really has. He is so sweet on Kendall. I think every woman wants a Caleb in their life who just wants them to be happy no matter what. I know I do!

Kendall is a spunky girl with a tragic and dangerous past. It’s easy to connect with her and want her to find her happily ever after with Caleb.

This book has fewer editing/grammar issues than the first book in the series, which makes it easier to read. Yay!!

I liked how the author showed a little of Lana and Oliver and the budding romance between Lucas and Elise. I’m excited to read the next book and see what happens with them!

Are you wondering about the sex? Well, there are a few sex scenes. One big one and maybe another smaller one or two. That seems to be the typical MO of this author. I feel like there could have been another scene at the end of the book.

This book is a quick and sweet story. I think y’all should give it a try! Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: The Fallen World

The Fallen World (The Fallen World, #1-3)The Fallen World by Laura Thalassa
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The world fell, but love won

First, you should know, I don’t normally care for war romance. I actually downloaded this series without reading the blurb and thought it was going to be about fallen angels. I love reading those books, but to my surprise, I loved this series!!

I fell in love with Serenity almost immediately. Her strength and courage know no bounds. She fights for everything that’s right in the world and doesn’t take no for an answer.

This story takes place in a world not so different from ours. It’s eerie how this could actually be our future. Serenity grows up to be an emissary and is goes to meet with the King to try and forge a peace treaty. She doesn’t know that she was setup to be the gift given to the King in exchange for peace. She becomes the King’s wife and slowly starts to love him.

Unfortunately, peace didn’t come from their union and instead more war breaks out. It becomes Serenity’s mission in life (or death) to bring peace to the world and restore it to how it was when she was a kid, before war broke everything that was good in life.

If I were to grade each book, books 1 and 2 were my favorites. I thought the third book dragged a little in the beginning, but I'm glad I kept going. The ending was worth it. I will say that it did get annoying that people kept taking Serenity and the King kept getting her back.

If you read this, you too will fall in love with these characters. I’m sad letting them go and moving on, but we all have to say goodbye sometimes. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: Regretting You

Regretting YouRegretting You by Colleen Hoover
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Not regrettable

This is one of those books where you struggle giving it stars. The ending was a 4.5, but the beginning was a 2, and most of the book was just a 3. If I could give half stars, it would be a 3.5. I rounded up for the author’s sake.

Why are the stars all over the place? Well, this is one of those stories where two people have an affair and the fiancé and wife are left living and find out about the affair and now have a child to raise. Personally, I don’t care for this plot line much and the writer didn’t make it stand out. It wasn’t funny, exciting, or anything. The beginning was mostly sad.

My biggest struggle with this book was probably the lack of answers about Jenny and Chris’ affair. We don’t really find out much of anything about it. When did it start? Where did their phones go when they died? Where were they going that they had a suitcase full of clothes? What happened to Chris’ car? What did those letters say? All these questions - 0 answers. Ugh! Frustrating!

My biggest enjoyment of the book comes at the very end with Clara and Miller. I hope they stay together forever. They’re so cute together.

Jonah and Morgan were an odd combination for me. I felt like Morgan lived a full life of denial and avoidance and only in the end of the book does she grow up and come to term with her feelings she’s always had. I like books with stronger women than her. My favorite leads are the ones who get pregnant and kick the guy they don’t love to the curb, not the ones who marry them and trudge through a life without passion.

All this to say that if you’re bored, this book will pass the time and it’s okay. Read it if you want. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: Seven Day Wife

Seven Day Wife: A Fake Marriage Office RomanceSeven Day Wife: A Fake Marriage Office Romance by Mia Faye
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The title says it all

The title describes the book exactly. Except, I’m not sure where seven day wife comes from. I thought they got fake married after seven days of knowing each other and they were fake married for longer than seven days. It was hard keeping track of time in this book.

Here’s a quick summary of the book: Cam and Yvette meet outside her apartment and hook up almost immediately. Then Cam finds out Yvette is a new employee at his company. Cam eventually lies to his boss (who has Alzheimer’s) and says he’s married to Yvette. This little lie continues as Cam tries to convince his daughter’s mother, Vicki the witch, that he wants full custody of her. This sets up for a decent book.

Overall, the book was okay. I didn’t quite click with Yvette or Cam. Cam started out fairly immature for a soon to be CEO and Yvette seemed pretty naive. Their dialogue was okay, but I didn’t find myself laughing out loud or shocked by anything that happened.

The love scenes were good, but there weren’t that many of them. I got bored with the book about 1/2 of the way in. The first part of the book flew, but then it just stopped. Feel free to give this book a try, but don’t have super high expectations for it. Happy reading y’all!

Book Review: Can I Come Over?

Can I Come Over? Can I Come Over? by Whitney G.
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’ll come over anytime

Christina is a romance writer who meets Dane on an app. Both use fake names and don’t know who each other are, and after 7 months of flirting and talking, they decide to meet. Christina learns her friend is actually her Dad’s best friend. Now they must choose what comes next.

I don’t give fives very often, but this was fantastic! Funny, sexy, entertaining. This had everything you want in a book. Even a sweet little epilogue to show that everyone lives happily ever after.

The sex scenes (both the real and fake ones) were amazing! Get that vibrator ready girls!

This was a short and quick read. I finished it in one night. Which made it even more amazing that I loved it so much. I also feel like I should add that I don’t normally go for books with large age differences, but these characters and the writing was so engaging, that I couldn’t stop reading it.

Give this book a try! I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: My Big Fat Fake Engagement

My Big Fat Fake EngagementMy Big Fat Fake Engagement by Lauren Landish
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Fake romance turned real

Good book! Courtney and Kaede have known each other forever. Kaede is Courtney’s brother’s best friend and business partner. Courtney is heir to Andrews Holdings, a billion dollar company. While look to expand their business, Kaede and Ross sign with an investor, and he infers Kaede should marry his father. Kaede says he’s already engaged to Courtney and the games begin.

Kaede and Courtney are entertaining characters and the story flows well. This is a very enjoyable book. Lauren really did a good job with developing all the characters and keeping them rememberable. The story about the shrimp in the enemy’s apartment grossed me out and made me wish I had a friend who knew such devious plans!

My only criticism of this book is that it starts dragging at about 89%. The climax happens early and the last 11% drags. A few more sex scenes could have kept the story moving a little better at the end.

Overall, this is a good book. The plot is well developed and enjoyable. I definitely think you should give it a go. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: Catching Him

Catching Him (How to Catch an Alpha #1)Catching Him by Aurora Rose Reynolds
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Not my catch

The best part of this book is the first chapter. Everything thereafter is just okay. I really enjoyed that first meet cute and had high hopes for this book. Unfortunately, it fell flat.

Leah and Tyler are next door neighbors who meet when Leah’s cat goes through Tyler’s window. They fall instantly in love and it’s happily ever after with a little property destruction mystery. I just saved you a few hours of reading.

There were two sex scenes. They were actually pretty good. There could have been one or two more to keep the book more interesting.

This is a series I won’t continue to read. There were some really good/funny parts, but just not enough of them. You might want to give it a try to see if this is the right book for you. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: Say You Do

Say You DoSay You Do by Weston Parker
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I Do!

Yes! I do! This sweet romance will hit you in the feels. Luna and Cyrus are two people scorned by terrible previous lovers and meet to plan Cyrus’ brother’s wedding. They become friends with benefits while planning the wedding and the rest is history.

There are some spots in this book that get slow or repeat, but overall, it’s a well written and sweet romance that most people will enjoy.

What about the sex?! Hmmm...the sex scenes were okay. Most of them are in the beginning of the book and I don’t remember them extremely well, which means they weren’t amazing.

Overall, this is a very solid romance. I will probably read more by this author. I hope you give this book a try! Happy reading y’all!

Book Review: Protecting You

Protecting You (Bailey Brothers, #1)Protecting You by Claire Kingsley
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Missing the it factor

In summary, Asher and Grace have known each other their whole lives and at 21, they finally wind up together. Then, a tragic night separates them for 8 years. And that’s basically where this story ends. There’s no final conclusion in this book; it ends as a cliff hanger. There’s another book if you want to see how the story completes.

This book just didn’t have it for me. There wasn’t action, adventure, or witty conversations. It’s decently written, but there isn’t much substance. The characters don’t overcome much to be together. They just love each other and always have. The sex scenes are less than thrilling. Overall, the book feels like it’s missing something.

If mild romance is something you like, then this might be a good book for you. Feel free to give it a try. To me, it was just okay. I’ve read other books by this author that have been much better. I’m not going to read the next book, because I’m 99% positive I already know how it will end. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review – Sin & Surrender

Sin & Surrender (Demigods of San Francisco, #6)Sin & Surrender by K.F. Breene
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Happily Ever After

Wow! What doesn’t this book have?! Love, danger, adventure, mystery...it has it all and it’s been done perfectly. I laughed, I cried, and I couldn’t put this book down.

Here’s a quick synopsis: Alexis and Kieren go the the Summit and establish themselves as leaders not to be messed with. We find out who Harding really is and meet the real Harding. Daisy meets someone who makes her heart flutter. And finally, we reclaim someone we lost and find truths about others.

This feels like the conclusion of the Sin series with an opening for a series with Daisy. I couldn’t imagine a better ending and I really hope we get to experience a series with Daisy. She really has grown on me during this series and I would love for her to have a happier (because this is already her happy) ending.

Overall, this is a great series and if you haven’t started it yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?? Start reading this today! Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review – IOU

IOUIOU by Kristy Marie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

IOU Cashes In

First, I must tell you that I have a thing for crazy women leads. They’re so much more fun to read about than other types of women!

Ainsley is a fun sort of crazy, sea lion loving, woman who loses her cool when she catches her first and only boyfriend naked with her college roommate. Who wouldn’t lose their cool?! Then through a series of events, she winds up on the doorstep of Maverick, asking for a favor; she desperately needs a place to stay. Maverick takes her in and the rest is history.

Ainsley is endearing and someone who most people will relate to and enjoy reading. Maverick is the hot bad boy that most red blooded women (like me!!) wants in their bed. This story is a simple pleaser for both those reasons.

The sex scenes are okay, but nothing that gets you too worked up. So, if you’re reading just for those, you might want to find another book. This one didn’t have me looking for the vibrator or grabbing my husband to release some pressure.

If you think this book sounds up your alley, give it a shot. I wasn’t disappointed and I hope you’re not either! Happy reading y’all!!
