I’ve been waiting forever for a Sanderson sister reunion!!! Here is a quick recap and my two cents 😉

Quick Recap

It’s Halloween and Becca’s 16th birthday. As a special birthday tradition, her and her friends usually celebrate with a ritual in the woods. Their friend Gilbert gifted them a candle to use during the celebration, but they didn’t know the candle was actually a black flame candle intended to bring the Sanderson sisters back to Salem.

My Two Cents

I LOVED THIS MOVIE! BUT (and this is a BIG BUT), I loved it for purely nostalgic reasons. If I wasn’t an 80’s/90’s kid and I hadn’t grown up loving Hocus Pocus, I’m not sure I would love this sequel.

First and foremost, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy are phenomenal actresses and beautiful women. But can you believe it’s been almost 30 years since Hocus Pocus premiered?!

I’m getting old! LOL. That’s okay – I’m okay with aging. Unfortunately, Bette, Sarah, and Kathy have all aged 30 years too. While this hasn’t negatively impacted their acting abilities, it has impacted their ability to move, bend, and dance like their younger selves.

I want to clarify. I don’t expect them to be able to do everything their younger self could, but their roles required it. It made some of the scenes less spectacular than they could have been. So, I think the roles would have been better recast and played by younger actresses. And trust me, it kills me to say that! I love original casts coming back! And I love these women!

Moving away from that small issue, I really enjoyed this movie. It somehow had a 90’s movie feel, with wonderful updates that gave it a modern feel. Plus, it shows the sisters history and how/why their coven formed.

On top of that, we see a formation of a new coven, and hear/see some wonderful Easter eggs from the first movie. If you stay through the credits, you’ll see a magical teaser!!!

I hope you give this movie a chance and enjoy it. I think I’ll always love it, because it’s part of my childhood. But I realize it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. If you want a more kid appropriate magic tv series, check out Just Add Magic on Amazon Prime.
