Rating: ⭐⭐

I’m sad to say I barely made it through this movie. It couldn’t hold my attention for more than a few minutes at a time. Here’s a quick recap and my two cents 😉

Quick Recap

Summer’s free spirited Mother, Vivian needs a place to stay, so Summer offers to provide a home until she can find one. Vivian brings a Christmas village with her and tells Summer’s daughter that it’s magical if you believe in it. As Summer’s daughter starts moving characters around on the board, her Mom and Ryan start acting out the scenes she’s making.

My Two Cents

Oh man, I really wanted to love this movie. It has so many wonderful pieces. A magical Christmas village, Alison Sweeney, Luke Macfarlane, and a free spirited Mom. But for some reason, these pieces didn’t come together right for me. I couldn’t get into it.

Maybe where it lost me was when Summer explains that she was responsible for ensuring the bills were paid. She lost part of her childhood taking care of her free spirited Mom and always felt like she didn’t have a choice.

Movies like this are usually on HMM. They lack the light hearted romcom feeling I usually love about Hallmark movies.

I also didn’t feel a lot of chemistry between Luke and Alison. They felt like best friends going around doing stuff together. Not potential love interests.

Anyhow, I was glad it had a Hallmark happily ever for everyone. Summer and Ryan even wore the outfits from the Christmas village. Super cute. Unfortunately, I almost fell asleep several times and really couldn’t get into it. I might try this again to see if it’s a me not being in the mood tonight thing. Sometimes that happens.

  1. Marlo Thomas’s fake face is hard to look at. Looks like Howdy Doody combined with Michael Jackson. She made the movie hard to watch

    1. She looks awful. Why would they pick her to act and then draw all the attention to her face? It was gross to watch.

    2. And Marlo’s voice grated on my nerves.

The woman who plays April- the younger sister of Allison – WHO is she? She looks like Sandra Bullock- maybe her real life sister?

  2. I couldn’t look at Marlo Thomas’s face. She looks like she had a Michael Jackson nose. She was such a pretty woman. Why, why did you do that awful plastic surgery.

  3. I could not get past how awful Marlo Thomas looked so I had a hard time staying focused on this movie. I’m old enough to remember her in That Girl but this Marlo ain’t that girl! I usually like Hallmark movies with Alison Sweeney but this one has little spark or energy.

  4. I couldn’t enjoy this movie because I couldn’t get past Marlo Thomas’ face. I loved her in That Girl! She was so pretty! Whoever is doing her plastic surgery messed her up! I wonder why she would do a movie looking so bad.

  5. Give her a break people, she’s not That Girl anymore. She’s 85

  6. I too couldn’t get into the movie. Marlo Thomas’ face looks so terrible. Plastic surgery really mess up her face. Kept wondering if that was Sandra Bullock in movie.

    1. I thought it was sweet and a little different but I didn’t like the casting for grandmother plus her character, though she was in the end able to manage her finances in the movie, it is considered miraculous in reality, especially for such a free spirit as herself.

  7. I agree with with previous comment. from Nino. Hard to watch when Marlo Thomas’ face has changed so much.
