Hallmark Movie Review: Autumn in the City

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/autumn-in-the-city

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Do you call it fate, kismet, or serendipity? Whatever you call it, these two were destined to find each other! Here’s a quick recap, then my two cents 😉

Quick Recap

Piper moves to New York to find herself. She joins with a temp agency to find a job that fits her. On her first day, she runs into Austin, who steals her cab while she’s bringing a drink order back to the office. She continues running into Austin – apartment across the hall, the coffee shop, and more as she tries to find herself.

My Two Cents

This isn’t a home run hit like Romance in Style, but it will be one of my favorite go-to movies like Love on the Sidelines and The Most Wonderful Time of the Year. Aimee Teegarden was wonderful as always and I enjoyed the fresh face of Evan Roderick as her costar!

I’m a big fan of Aimee Teegarden! She’s cute, sweet, and wholesome in the roles she chooses. Last holiday season she was in My Christmas Family Tree and A New Year’s Resolution. Both were pretty good! Definitely see them if you haven’t!

Going back to tonight’s movie…

I admire Piper for moving to New York to find herself. What a wonderful thing for someone her age to try if they’re uncertain what they want to do with their life. Sign up with a temp agency and try several different things. I did that when I was younger too and it was great! Plus, through Piper’s desire to find herself, we are able to watch some funny learning experiences!

I always enjoy a good he/she stole my cab meet cute! Austin stealing Piper’s cab and Piper throwing the drinks all over the fashion collection was wonderful. 🤣 I also loved when she tried out for the play, then confidently strutted off the stage saying, “just setting you all up for success,” because she knew she bombed it.

But through her experiences, she meets wonderful people and finds her true calling. The nice people at the museum, the gallery, and the coffee shop owners. She creates a wonderful network of friends in a short amount of time. And Austin is there for the entire ride. I loved watching their relationship grow. There’s even a one year epilogue!

Romcoms are my bread and butter movies. I will watch them all day – everyday. But I think even non-romcom lovers will enjoy this cute/funny movie. I hope you find time to watch it!

Hallmark Movie Review: Wedding of a Lifetime

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/wedding-of-a-lifetime

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Yes! I’m in ROMCOM heaven over here! I wish there was a new romcom every week! Here is a quick recap and my two cents 😉

Quick Recap

Darby and Jake are childhood sweethearts who have been engaged for 10 years. Unfortunately, life kept getting in the way of them marrying. Now, their entire town nominated them for Hey Good Day’s competition, Wedding of a Lifetime. With their businesses failing, they decide to enter the competition in hopes of saving the town’s small businesses.

My Two Cents

I was a little worried when this movie started out sad and heavy. I wasn’t in the mood for a sad/heavy movie tonight. But when the competition started, so did the fun. I absolutely loved Darby and Jake together!

Also I loved all the familiar faces! So many of the supporting cast have been in other movies! Did you notice them? Wish I knew some of their names, but it’s often difficult to get full cast lists. 🙁

Holy fun competition! I wish Jeff and I could do something like that. I like to think we would kick butt. Even if we didn’t, we would definitely laugh 99% of the time and love it. For Darby and Jake, I loved how every game brought them closer together. They had a significant advantage, because they had been together the longest, but they wouldn’t have done so well if they didn’t love each other.

I loved when Darby and Jake sneak out of the hotel and go to the pie shop. Pie for a meal should really be a thing. Sometimes I have dessert for dinner where I eat a hot fudge sundae or cake for dinner (don’t judge, I’m sure most of us have done this at some point in our lives!). I would happily eat pie if we had a pie place, but there is a disturbing lack of pie stores where I live. 😊

Fan picked wedding my butt. I highly doubt the fans would have chosen anything that wound up in their wedding. I’m glad that worked out the way it did. If I had walked into my wedding like that, I would have put an immediate end to it.

Despite the weird fan picked wedding and the sad/heavy opening, I really enjoyed all the romcom and funny moments sprinkled throughout. Jeff and my son even enjoyed quite a few parts. So, I think most people will like this too. If you enjoy silly romcom’s, then give this a shot!

Hallmark Movie Review: Marry Go Round

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/marry-go-round

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

It’s a rainy day in Wisconsin and there’s nothing better to do than watch tonight’s premiere! I always enjoy a second chance romance! Here is a quick recap and my two cents 😉

Quick Recap

Abby is readying to move to Paris and marry Edward, her fiance. Unfortunately, she finds out she’s still married to Luke, her childhood sweetheart, whom she thought she had divorced many years ago. She flies home to divorce Luke, but he refuses to sign. Now Abby has to stay until they can meet with the judge again, which is the following week.

My Two Cents

Second chance romances are one of my favorite tropes! And Sweet Home Alabama is probably my all time favorite second chance romance movie. Probably because it is heavy on the romcom content, which always wins me over.

While I really enjoyed Marry Go Round, I found it lacking in the romcom area. It actually made me kinda sad. Was it just me? Maybe it was the rainy day, lack of sleep, or something else, but this movie hit me in the heart and cast a shadow more than most.

At the hour mark, my heart literally stilled in my chest. “Did you think about me when you were looking at the stars?” How many of us look at the stars and think of our lost loves. Those who have left this plane and those who aren’t in our lives anymore? I do all the time and I know I’m not alone, because even Disney works it into their movies…

Despite it making me sad, one of the reasons I look forward to second chance romances, is because of the quotes. Second chance romances always have sweet heart melting quotes like, “I always believed in our forever,” and “so I can kiss you anytime I want.”

I know this movie will appeal to many, but it won’t appeal to all. I can almost guarantee my family all turned off this movie within the first 15 minutes. Jeff zoned out pretty early on. But this is going to be one of those movies I can put on anytime. It’ll find a place in my heart with my other Hallmark favorites even though I’m not giving it 5 stars.

Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Review: Groundswell

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

WOW! I can see why everyone has been raving about this movie! I wish I could have seen it sooner, but my schedule and the movies play times haven’t aligned before tonight. Here’s a quick recap and my full two cents. 😉

Quick Recap

Emma is an amazing chef at a high end restaurant. When a renown food critic praises her work, her boyfriend/boss refuses to admit Emma cooked the food he ate, she quits. Emma escapes to Hawaii where she decides to take surf lessons from Ben.

My Two Cents

Definitely a must see! There is so much to love about this movie. I know I won’t capture it all here, but I will try my best 😊

First, I need to throw a little love to Lacey…She is an amazing and beautiful actress. She was the perfect lead for this movie. Plus, she had great chemistry with all the other actors/actresses!

Moving on to the movie…

I 100% support Emma’s decision for leaving Garrett’s restaurant! He was treating her terribly and she deserved recognition for her awesome work. I’ve been fortunate in my own life to never experience someone trying to take credit for my work. It would make me so mad. I would leave too!

A girl can only dream to quit her job and escape to Hawaii. Hawaii was so beautiful! The green/blue water, hills and mountains, and so much more. Every time I watch one of these movies, I want to escape to someplace tropical and lay on a beach for a few weeks with no plans.

But Emma didn’t lay on the beach with no plans. She met Ben and hired him for surfing lessons. Then met his brother and became a contestant in a cooking contest. Super fun!!

Speaking of Ben…I loved everything about Ben! He was handsome, sweet, and always supported Emma. He was insightful, wise, and taught Emma how to relax a little with surf board yoga. Plus, he listened when Emma gave him advice about moving on after Estraya’s death.

Then there was the cooking competition! Frankie and Emma were an amazing team. They problem solved issues without being mean to each other, bounced ideas off each other, and forgave each other for mistakes. It normally takes time to develop that level of teamwork, but it’s a Hallmark movie, so we’ll go with the flow here. 😊

I thought I was going to get through this movie without crying. Enter Estraya’s letter. SO. MANY. TEARS. You’ve been warned! Find a tissue before the last hour.

I definitely understand why all the Hallmark groups were going crazy about this movie. It is really good. Definitely see it if you haven’t!

Hallmark Movies and Mysteries Review: Love’s Portrait

Image via: https://www.hallmarkmoviesandmysteries.com/loves-portrait

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I don’t normally watch the Movies and Mysteries premieres, because they’re late at night on a work night. I know that sounds pathetic, but I need my sleep and I don’t have a DVR or anything like that. I know, it’s surprising someone doesn’t have one these days, but I’m pretty cheap with spending money on media services. Anyhow, Monday is a holiday and I don’t work! So, I put this movie on tonight and boy am I glad I did! 1,000,000% yes to this movie! Here’s a quick recap and my full two cents. 😉

Quick Recap

Lily works for a museum that receives a donated painting. When her and her coworkers open the painting, they discover it’s a painting of her. Not just a doppelganger, but it’s actually her. Wanting to discover the story behind the painting (and hoping to find Lily a husband), Lily’s boss sends her to Ireland to find out the truth about the painting.

My Two Cents

OMG! I was a puddle of goo watching this movie. I LOVE FATE ROMANCES. Add a bit of mystical magic and Ireland and I’m ALL IN. Let’s dive into this fate romance 😁

It kills my heart when someone doesn’t believe in soul mates. I feel like if you don’t believe, it’s because you haven’t found yours. I could see how it would be hard to believe in something you haven’t felt. I have faith, so I’m a believer. I could also understand Lily being mad with fate at taking away her first husband.

Then she met William. What did you think of the meet cute?! Not the run off the road meet cute, but the one where they meet face to face. Did you see the way William looked at Lily? I just about died. That’s true love. That’s when William realized why he was having dreams about a woman he’s never met.

I gotta say, if you aren’t use to Irish brogue, you might struggle sometimes. The movie does a pretty good job of explaining most of the unfamiliar words, but I’m glad I’ve read a lot of Irish romance books. It definitely helped!

I loved Lily and William going around Ireland looking for the person who sent the picture. I loved even more when they found him and the story he had about it. I cried a little. Maybe a lot, but hey, it’s was super sweet.

Definitely keep some tissues on hand. Maybe I’m super emotional tonight or maybe this was tear provoking movie. It caught me a few times.

If you have the opportunity, definitely watch this movie. I loved pretty much every part of it. Including Lily’s boss and coworkers and the fact that Lily knew how to sign so she could speak with her deaf coworker. Honestly, I loved it all. I really wish this had been the Hallmark Channel premiere last night. I would have enjoyed it a lot more.

Hallmark Movie Review: Marry Me in Yosemite

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/marry-me-in-yosemite

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Another movie that’s just okay. It’s missing the IT factor to make it amazing. Here’s a quick recap and my full two cents. 😉

Quick Recap

Zoe is given an assignment to take photos and make a book focused on Yosemite. When she arrives, she needs a guide. Eventually she convinces Jack the naturalist to help her find the right shots for her assignment.

My Two Cents

I had a crazy busy day today. We saw DC League of Super-Pets, taught my daughter how to ride a bike without training wheels, walked the dogs, and did some shopping. By the time it came to watch this movie, I was already feeling exhausted and this movie almost put me to sleep. Jeff promised to watch it with me, but he went to bed before it was over! 😡

There were some cute/funny parts and some parts I really enjoyed for the scenery, but overall I struggled to stay tuned into the movie. I found it more interesting to Google some of the things they were talking about – John Muir, Half Dome, the Ahwahnechee, etc.

In case you didn’t know, I’m a total Twihard (Twilight lover). Jacob’s Native American roots have always interested me. At one point, one of the Cullens talks about the long memory of the Native Americans because they pass down stories (like the Cullens being Vampires) from generation to generation. I enjoyed the part of this movie that talks about the Ahwahnechee Native American history related to Yosemite and the story of Half Dome.

I also liked Zoe bringing the Native American history into her book and Zach writing for her book. It was a nice way to bring the movie together. But I didn’t care for the climax a whole lot. It seemed like they made some drama just to make drama. It didn’t feel in line with the characters.

There were a few other things that bothered me tonight more than normal. One of those things was camping before climbing to Half Dome. I don’t camp much, but did wine while camping seem odd to anyone else? Also, I totally wouldn’t have slept by myself after hearing those coyotes and a city girl like Zoe probably wouldn’t have either. Two hugs don’t make up for the sound of nearby coyotes!

There will be a fair amount of people who enjoy this movie, because it’s simple and good. But compared to the new releases last month, this one was lacking. The best part about this movie was the 1 year epilogue! I’d really like to see these on more of the movies!

Hallmark Movie Review: Game, Set, Love

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/game-set-love/about-game-set-love

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Not the home run the last three weeks had, but Game, Set, Love is a very solid romance, even if you’re not a tennis player/lover. Here is a quick recap and my full two cents 😉

Quick Recap

William is a spoiled rotten self-centered tennis star who is moving from the world of singles to doubles. Unsurprisingly he’s having trouble adjusting to having a partner. Ashley (William’s new partner) enlists her friend, Taylor’s, help in teaching William how to become a doubles partner.

My Two Cents

I haven’t seen a good sports romance since Love on the Sidelines, which was quite a while ago. Also, I didn’t really know any of the actors/actresses. So I wasn’t expecting much from this movie. But it was definitely worth watching tonight!

I loved the plot of Ashley wanting Taylor to help teach William how to be a better partner for doubles tennis, but through an injury, Taylor steps in to be William’s new partner. It was great seeing Taylor and William’s relationship evolve throughout the movie.

I especially liked all the time Taylor and William spent developing their relationship off the court. In order for people to work well together, they need to know each other in more ways than one. Just knowing each other on the court wasn’t enough to develop good communication and teamwork.

I loved the couples yoga and the card game where the high card winner is able to ask the other a question was a great way to learn more about each other! It would be fun to do something like the card game with coworkers! Even yoga would be entertaining. 🤣

I really wish they would have extended the ending a bit. I’d like to have seen what happens with Taylor and William in 6 months or a year. I know all the Hallmark movies end with the final kiss, but I really wanted an epilogue on this one! They both had so much personal growth, I wanted to see it continue. Especially with William and his family.

I hope you saw this movie tonight. Without the big star appeal I know a lot of people will be tempted to skip it, but I think it’s definitely worth a try. Especially if you’re more of an enemies to lover movie lover.

Hallmark Movie Review: Dating the Delaneys

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/dating-the-delaneys

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Yes! Corny romcom city! One of my favorite movie tropes! AND RACHEL BOSTON AND PAUL CAMPBELL!! I love them together!! This was a fantastically fun movie! Here’s a quick recap and my two cents. 😉

Quick Recap

Maggie is a divorced mom of two teenagers. She learns her mom is dating, her daughter is dating, and her ex-husband is engaged to be married. Feeling a bit out of sorts, she decides to start dating again. After a failed blind date, she starts pretend dating and hanging out with her widowed friend Michael.

My Two Cents

I’m getting over the flu and it was difficult to watch a movie that has this much delicious looking food! Bacon loaded chocolate cake, mozzarella sticks, milk shakes, and so much more! I wanted to eat it all! But this movie was about so much more than the food. It was corny, sweet, and loveable.

Usually I like movies with one or maybe two romance plots. Movies like The Christmas House can be a bit overwhelming with everything happening. But, I liked the several different relationship story lines in this movie. It was perfect.

I liked revisiting the 16 year old crush plot line. Emma’s crush on Zach was obviously so wrong for her and her first date with Zach was so awkward! Oh to be 16 again and figuring out who you do/don’t like. I just kept yelling at her to notice her chemistry partner, John! He even sent her the adorable beaker photo and they exchanged dad jokes. So cute!

Maggie’s mom dating Rick was adorable too. I like the thought of finding romance after you’ve lost your first love. Similarly, I liked Michael looking for love after his wife died too. He was so sweet to Maggie. Helping her. Building her up. Being there for her. Honestly, a perfect partner!

This is definitely a movie I’ll enjoy watching multiple times! I hope you watch it too. The movie had a lot of cute lines and quotes, but my favorite was that 40 is the new 30 and 10 PM is my new bed time, so I better get going to bed. 😉

Hallmark Movie Review: Romance in Style

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/romance-in-style

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

It’s like Devil Meets Prada meets Dirty Dancing with a Cinderella ending! I could almost hear Derek say, “Nobody puts Baby in the corner,” as he stands up for Ella’s vision and made her dreams come true. I loved every minute! Here’s a quick recap and my two cents. 😉

Quick Recap

Ella is an aspiring designer who is helping her friend Katie at the magazine The Look when Derek comes to help improve readership. Derek’s family owns the publishing company for The Look, but he doesn’t know much about fashion. He enlists Ella to teach him about fashion, so he can earn the respect of the employees.

My Two Cents

Yes Hallmark! I love this movie!! I love the fresh new faces, the plot, and all the body positivity talk! Honest, amazing women (and men) in all shapes, sizes, and colors should be able to do anything they want! We need more movies like this!

Quick shout out to Jaicy Elliot! I loved her portraying Ella! She’s such an amazing character. She’s beautiful, strong, and honest. I loved her standing up for all the women who deserve to feel as beautiful as they are in clothes that fit and flatter them.

Speaking of fit and flattering clothes. Did you see Benjamin Hollingsworth in all those suits?? Is it hot in here or is it me? I’m a little young for hot flashes, but there is something about a man in a suit. **fanning myself** I’d watch Benjamin Hollingsworth walk around in a suit all day!

I could also talk about this movie all day! There were so many wonderful moments! Ella showing Derek silk was so hot. Derek saving Ella from the bicyclist gave me wonderful feels. And Derek telling Ella she’s “everything.” was legitimately every girls dream. Plus so much more!

Then there was the ending…perfection! The father/son moment brought me to tears. And the photo shoot gave me all the feels. Serious perfection guys. Even Jeff enjoyed the movie! It’ll be on my top Hallmark movies list for sure!

Hallmark Movie Review: A Splash of Love

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/a-splash-of-love

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Awww…what a sweet movie! I love small town romances. In a world that could use more love, friendliness, and teamwork, a small town like Cable Cove provides hope for better. Here’s a quick recap and my two cents on this small town romcom. 😉

Quick Recap

PHD student Chloe is a marine biologist who accepts the opportunity to visit Cable Cove to see the whales she’s been studying in a lab. Once there, she meets Ben who owns a whale watching business. Chloe and Ben spend time together while Chloe tries to find the elusive Echo pod.

My Two Cents

Sometimes there are movies I watch and when it’s over I say to myself, that was a good movie. Then I sit here for almost 2 hours struggling to write much 😲 Fair warning – this might be a rough review! I’m just not feeling it tonight.

This is definitely a movie for sweet small town romance lovers. It has sweetness in spades. Except for the boyfriend / ex-girlfriend part. In fact, I wish Hallmark had left out those story lines. I think the movie would have been a little better if it had just focused on Ben, Chloe, and the whales. Then it could have been sweet without the drama.

I liked Ben and Chloe’s chemistry. It felt like they knew they were right for each other immediately. They have this kindness towards each other and their friends that was contagious. I loved seeing them come together to help bring the people to town when the road washed out, then again with the dock party. They have helper spirits that inspire others. We need more Ben and Chloes in the world.

With all the sweetness in the movie, it’s not surprising the ending needed a dramatic moment to keep Chloe in Cable Cove. But this dramatic ending left me scratching my head a bit. I didn’t quite understand why Chloe couldn’t find a boat to take her out. Maybe I zoned out during the exact explanation.

They went down to the marina and there were dozens of boats. Plus there was the boat she had originally rented for the week. Why couldn’t she take that? Hadn’t she learned how to boat a little while spending time with Ben all week? I’m sure I’m thinking too hard. The drama was needed to bring Chloe and Ben together in the end.

Overall, I found myself giggling a few times at the jokes and funny moments. Especially the oyster over the shoulder bit. There were enough of these moments to keep me (but not Jeff) mostly entertained throughout. Keep your expectations reasonable on this movie and I think you’ll enjoy it. If you’re looking for something spectacular, this isn’t that movie.

Hallmark Movie Review: Christmas in Toyland

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/christmas-in-toyland

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Yes!! This is the Christmas in July movie I’ve been waiting for! IT factor achieved and exceeded! Here’s a quick recap and my two cents. 😉

Quick Recap

Big Teddy Toy Company is facing the decision most companies are – should they close their brick and mortar stores and go completely online? Charlie Sawyer is a corporate data analyst who discovers store 24 is the only store not losing money. In a bid to save the brick and mortar stores, Charlie stands up for them and is voluntold to visit store 24 to see what they’re doing differently.

My Two Cents

OMG! 100% YES! They had me at elf dust! Okay, they had me before the elf dust, but the elf dust definitely sealed my love of this movie! In fact, it’ll hit my favorite Christmas movie list and will be a movie I enjoy watching and re-watching any time of year.

I am a complete sucker for a numbers oriented, awkward, data nerd falling in love with a young at heart man child. Someone who can bring out her silly child side and make her laugh. But will be there when the times get hard (I have no proof of this, but I’m sure he would be!).

Vanessa Lengies and Jesse Hutch were fantastic in these roles! I would watch them together any day. I loved Vanessa last year in Heart of the Holidays too! She’s quickly climbing to my top female Hallmark leading list. I’d also like to give a shout out to the young actress who played Grant’s Niece! What a cute girl!

This movie has a broad appeal that many viewers will love. It also has the IT factor in spades. The ending might even bring a happy tear to your eye 😊 Definitely give this movie a try! It has classic Hallmark happy feels.

Hallmark Movie Review: Campfire Christmas

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/campfire-christmas

Rating: ⭐⭐

I’m starting to feel like the Christmas in July Scrooge. I could not get into this movie! I might try it again tomorrow, but just in case I don’t, I thought I’d throw this review out there and see what y’all thought. Here’s a quick recap and my two cents.

Quick Recap

Taylor’s parents host a Christmas themed reunion at their summer camp. Taylor runs into her camp ex-boyfriend. Their good friend Beckett also attends and runs into his camp rival. Will they both kindle a relationship?

My Two Cents

First things first. I have comment approval turned on because of the bots who think my blog is a great place to find recommendations for vape locations and sex toys. The sex toys I understand (romance book reviews can be a bit graphic), but the vaping is a bit of a mystery other than smoking and sex went together in the olden days.

Anyhow, I also use comment approval because I won’t approve comments that are homophobic or racist in nature. This movie has two bi-racial relationships and a homosexual relationship. If this isn’t your cup of tea, move on. There are plenty of other movies out there 😉

Alrighty, with that said, lets talk about the movie…Jeff and I both tried watching it. Mostly because I stole the remote and refused to give it back. 15-30 minutes into the movie, I asked if he had any idea what was going on and he said no. 60 minutes in and he pulled out his laptop and completely gave up on this movie, claiming it’s “the worst Hallmark movie he’s ever seen.” 😬 Eeek!

That’s a bit strong of a designation for me. I’ve seen worse. But after an hour, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to even write a quick recap. I struggled to remember the details of that first hour. What was I watching?! Why were these adults at a Christmas camp in warm weather without snow?

I figured out/remembered the answers eventually, but I continued to struggle for most of the movie and I’m not sure why. The glitter fight was adorable. I loved the capture the wreath game. And the ending was Hallmark perfect. But overall, it was missing that IT factor.

I’m not sure how everyone else will take this movie. I don’t think it has the broad appeal many of the Hallmark movies achieve. Yes, some people will love this movie, but I wasn’t one of them and I think that number will be smaller than average. Last week I just wanted a RomCom. This week, I want a better RomCom. Hopefully next week will be better!

Hallmark Movie Review: My Grown-Up Christmas List

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/my-grown-up-christmas-list

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

I was a little sad I missed this movie on Saturday night. It’s been so busy around here! My son and I chose to catch up on Ms. Marvel and I had some cleaning to do instead. If you haven’t seen the new Ms. Marvel miniseries yet – I highly recommend it!! 😉 This movie…not so much(ish). I’ll explain more after a quick recap.

Quick Recap

Taylor returns to her hometown for a few days during Christmas each year. This year, she meets a Santa who catches her eye. She learns his name is Luke, but leaves without really meeting him. The following year, she returns and runs into Luke again. This time, she takes the plunge to really meet Luke and open her heart to the possibility of a future with him.

My Two Cents

Oh man, I wasn’t in the mood for a sad movie today. There’s enough sadness in my life right now. I was really hoping for a solid RomCom. This is most definitely not that RomCom. So, I know that is playing into this review.

First and foremost – I have a tremendous amount of respect and appreciation for our armed forces and everything they do for our country. They and their families go through more than I’ll ever fully know putting their lives at risk for us on a daily basis. Unfortunately, military romance movies are not a trope I look forward to. Oddly, I usually enjoy military romance books. I know, I’m weird. 😊

This movie will probably appeal to the majority of Hallmark movie watchers. So, if you like military movies, and you aren’t looking for a RomCom, you will probably love this movie! Give it a try!

If you’re a RomCom lover, this is definitely not your jam. There were very few jokes to lighten the mood of the movie. Overall, it was a sad movie that highlighted the difficulties our military families experience daily. On the plus side, it shows the love and hope that’s possible despite the lifestyle they choose. And the strength of Taylor and Luke’s families to overcome any obstacles.

I think a lot of people will give this movie 5 stars and will love the feels it delivers. So, don’t let my review deter you if you think this is a good fit for you! I love both leads; they were fantastic!

Hallmark Movie Review: Two Tickets to Paradise

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/two-tickets-to-paradise

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

FULL DISCLAIMER: I have a thing for Ryan Paevey. This entire review is probably slanted because of this. Please keep that in mind as I give a quick recap and my full two cents. 😉

Quick Re-Cap

Josh and Hannah are both dumped on their wedding day. They run into each other outside the church and encourage each other to go on their honeymoons. They wind up honeymooning in the same location and continue to run into each other until they decide to spend their vacation together.

My Two Cents

I loved everything about this movie! Hawaii, turtles, dolphins, an adorably funny meet cute, frequently shirtless RYAN freaking PAEVEY, ASHLEY WILLIAMS, and so much more. Even a bit of magic 😉

Of course, I’m not talking about actual magic. I’m talking about the magic of fate. I loved the data driven and statistically sensible actuary becoming speechless and spontaneous around Josh. By the end, even Hannah couldn’t deny there’s sometimes a higher power helping two people come together.

Beyond the magic of fate, I really liked how this movie explored what it means to love someone and be in love with someone. Also, how it’s okay to have conflicting emotions. Someone told Hannah, “You have the right to be really mad and really sad, sometimes at the same time.” – I really loved this advice. It’s so true. Sometimes we feel so many emotions at once and they’re all okay.

There’s no right or wrong with emotions, but there is an actress who is spectacular at displaying her emotions! I love Ashley’s over the top facial expressions and reactions paired with Ryan’s solidness. I was worried these two wouldn’t be a good match, but I was very pleasantly surprised! They were so cute together!

I’ve waited this whole review to have this freak out…Ryan Paevey with his shirt off on a beach!! 100,000% yes! I would see that EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. If there was no other reason to like this movie, that would be it!

Hallmark Movie Review: Caribbean Summer

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

This movie starts out so promising! I wanted to love it, but it couldn’t keep my attention. It’s missing the coveted IT factor. Here’s a quick recap and my full two cents. 😉

Quick Re-Cap

Jade is an overworked news producer who accidentally gives someone the wrong lines during an interview and is forced to take a much needed vacation. While on vacation, she unknowingly rents Ford’s house. Unfortunately for her, Ford didn’t rent out his house and there’s no other vacancies on the island. Being the nice guy he is, Ford lets Jade stay at his house while Jade attempts to have a vacation away from work. Too bad her work doesn’t stay away from her.

My Two Cents

I absolutely loved the first 15 – 30 minutes of this movie!! The opening scene made me laugh pretty hard. Even Jeff gave it a few good chuckles, because men don’t giggle. 😉 Unfortunately after that, we both kind of lost interest.

I could see where the movie was going with Ford being all shady and Jade being a news producer. In the house, I saw the pictures of the goat and instantly knew where that was headed. I wanted a little more drama in that scene though. I mean, it was like, “Oh! You’re not suppose to be here, but I guess you can spend the night.” Because we all let complete strangers from New York stay in our houses?!

It’s possible this is a case of it’s me and not the movie. Somewhat recently I read The Last Eligible Billionaire by Pippa Grant where a woman on vacation rents a house through a website and it turns out the guy who owned the house didn’t put the house up for rental. The woman becomes the guy’s fake girlfriend. So much funnier than this movie! And it has an amazing dog named Marshmallow!

It also didn’t help that I had some free time this morning and watched a few Hallmark movies. One of them was The 27-Hour Day. It stars Autumn Reeser as a workaholic who goes to an electronics free retreat to find some work-life balance. Honestly, it’s a far better workaholic movie. But maybe watching The 27-Hour Day the same day as Caribbean Summer wasn’t a good idea. Sometimes you can watch too much of the same plot lines.

Going back to the movie…there were a few good scenes and lines, but everything after the first 30 minutes was disappointing. Jeff even left to go take care of some laundry. Yes, I’m that lucky sometimes. 😍 Anyhow, I can honestly say that after the first 60 minutes, I tuned out a lot of the movie until the last 10 minutes.

The last 10 minutes didn’t disappoint. I was happy to have everything work out in the end. I would rather watch The 27-Hour Day again over this movie. It’s a shame, because I like Heather Hemmens and would love to see her in something great!
