Hallmark Movie Review: Raise a Glass to Love

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Oh man guys. Another meh movie. Nothing in this movie gave me butterflies or made me say “awww…” Here’s a quick re-cap and my full two cents.

Quick Re-Cap

Jenna fails her Master Sommelier exam and returns home for her parent’s party and to study for re-taking the exam. While at home, Jenna learns her parents have hired Marcelo to help make the wine. Ever since her grandma died, the winery hasn’t been doing as well. Jenna and Marcelo become friends, but will they become more?

My Two Cents

I loved Laura Osnes in One Royal Holiday!! I liked her in this movie too, but Juan Pablo Di Pace wasn’t my cup of tea. Which would have been okay, if the plot or chemistry would have floated the movie. Unfortunately, it didn’t and there weren’t any butterflies flying in my belly when these two looked at each other.

This movie really tried to be something special. There were even horses! How can I not LOVE a movie with horses? I don’t know folks, but it’s missing the infamous IT factor. 😞

There were several cute and funny moments I enjoyed. I liked the candle making and apple bobbing. I liked that Marcelo is from Olivia, which just happens to be Jenna’s Grandma’s middle name. That kind of kismet makes me smile every time.

It was the little things that made this movie more entertaining, but it wasn’t enough. I found myself watching the previews for next week’s movie (it’s a horse movie) and wondering why I can’t watch that today. This isn’t a good sign.

Anyhow, if you like wine movies. I highly recommend Paris, Wine & Romance instead. I don’t think I wrote a review for it, but I really liked this one. It has another of my favorite leads. Happy watching y’all!

Hallmark Movie Review: Hearts Down Under

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

I’ve watched this movie 3 times. All 3 times I get side tracked and find something better to do. And by better I mean, laundry, dishes, pet my friend Rem, etc. Anyhow, I’ve finally managed to watch the whole movie, but I’m left underwhelmed. Here’s a quick re-cap and my full two cents πŸ™‚ Enjoy!

Movie Re-cap

Caroline’s Aunt dies and leaves her a restaurant in Australia. She travels to Australia and meets Cook (Simon Cook). Caroline has her own restaurant in New York, so she wants to fix up the Australia restaurant and sell it, but she ends up enjoying spending time with Cook. After the restaurant is fixed up, she needs to make the decision to sell or not to sell πŸ™‚

My Two Cents

I feel like there have been a lot of chef movies in the past few months. There’s been Mix Up in the Mediterranean and Right in Front of Me recently. If I stretch, then As Luck Would Have It kind of counts, because he made liquor and there were cooking lessons. Maybe more? I’m not sure, but I think I’m a little tired of chefs.

One thing I’m not tired of though? Hot accents! I can listen to Tim Ross (Cook) talk all day. It didn’t hurt that he also had a rare half naked moment with no shirt! Woot Woot!

Spatch, Caroline’s Aunt’s dog, should definitely receive an award for his role. He was super adorable! Honestly, he stole most of the movie. I really liked Caroline’s insta-bond with him. I often wonder if dogs can smell family members. Like do we all have a similar scent? It makes me think of Vampires vs. Werewolves πŸ˜‰

Sorry, back on track…

I don’t know y’all. There really wasn’t much else worth mentioning. I enjoyed all the beach shots and wish I could walk along the beach or go fishing.

Overall

This movie was cute and funny at parts – I’m totally going to steal the, “I have to go wash my cat” after looking at my imaginary watch line sometime – but overall it was lacking that IT factor. There were too many parts where I found myself bored.

I think you should watch it and let me know what you think? Am I having a crabby/off day? Should I try it again in a few weeks and see if I like it more? Leave a comment and let me know! Happy movie watching y’all!

Hallmark Movie Review: One Perfect Wedding

Rating: ⭐⭐

Jack turner is bald and totally rocking it! That (plus the peak of his abs) are the best parts of the movie. I’m sure there will be a lot of people who like this movie a lot, unfortunately, I’m not one of them.

I’m not sure what it is about this series, but I haven’t been able to get into any of them. On Friday, Hallmark played One Winter Weekend and One Winter Proposal and I tried, but couldn’t watch either.

Now I’m sitting here trying to watch One Perfect Wedding and I can’t concentrate on it. Ben is too secretive and Cara is too suspicious of everything he does. I don’t feel like a relationship would work with these two long term. They don’t seem like they’re in sync with each other.

There were a few things I liked. I really enjoyed the Bride vs Groom game. I love games like that! Plus, I really liked the Max and Clara sideline story. It was super sweet and cute. These few things saved this movie from a 1 star review.

What did you all think of this movie? Did you like it?

Feel free to give this movie a try. Personally, I would skip it. Look back through some of my past reviews to find some 5 star movie reviews. Chasing Waterfalls, It was Always You, or Taking a Shot at Love were three more recent ones I really enjoyed.

Movie Review: Mulan (2020)

Rating:
4.5/5

If you don’t know this yet, I love all things Disney, but I’ve really struggled with all these remakes. I was a 1980’s kid and grew up with the cartoon versions of these movies and I loved everything about them, especially the songs. I think I can still sing almost every Disney song and Mulan had one of my favorites. I bet you can’t guess which! πŸ˜‰

Did you guess I’ll Make a Man Out of You? I did enjoy this song a lot, but it wasn’t my favorite. Nope. Guess again!

Did you guess Christina Aguilera’s Reflection? Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner!! Have you heard the latest version? No? Why not?? It’s wonderful! I made it easy on you…have a listen below πŸ˜€

As a parent of a 4 and 8 year old, I’ve wound up watching all these remakes. The Lion King and Aladdin both stay very close to the original movies. I think both added in one new song, and resistant to change as I am, I didn’t like them at first, but now the new song, Speechless, from Aladdin has a space in my heart like all the other Disney songs I love.

But in this Mulan? There’s no music with words. There’s some phantoms of my favorite songs, which I’m grateful for, but the actual songs with words are gone. 😒

This lead me to feel more like I was watching Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. It was beautiful and artistic, but it felt like it was missing some of that Disney magic I love. There was some magic in the phoenix that came to watch over Mulan, but that phoenix was no Mush, and I missed the comedy from Mushu and the lucky cricket terribly.

Beyond the phoenix, there was a shape shifting witch! A witch who started just like Mulan. A woman with amazing talent, but unlike Mulan, she was shunned and dishonored. So, she sought revenge and teamed up with BΓΆri Khan to destroy the Emperor.

No worries though, because the witch is offered the opportunity to redeem herself and what Disney movie would it be if a villain couldn’t be redeemed? Always have faith! Beyond faith, this movie placed emphasis on virtues the soldiers needed to embody and make a pledge to be:

  • Loyal
  • True
  • Brave

I feel like we could all use these pledges in our lives.

Overall, this movie kept my 8 year old and I engaged the whole time. Neither of us wanted to leave long enough to even let the dogs outside (sorry to hubby for making him do that while we sat on the couch like lumps on a log). There were even a few parts where I held my breath or clenched my hands, anxious for what was to come! I mean sure, the nostalgic 1980’s kid in me missed everything I listed, but the 2020’s me is embracing the change and enjoying this remake. I included the new song from the new Mulan soundtrack below. Maybe it’ll grow on you! Happy movie watching y’all!
