Book Review: Work Me Good

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Work Me Good by Ali Parker

Oh my WOW!

Have that relief handy, because this book has some super hot sex scenes! Lets do a quick re-cap, then I’ll give you more of my two cents.

Quick Re-cap:

Saige and Nash had a fling about 9 years ago, but Nash dumped her for a trophy wife. Nash divorced the trophy wife after amassing a large fortune.

Now, Nash has purchased the business Saige operates and he steps in to convert the business to his standard business model…cold, heartless, and quiet offices.

Saige doesn’t like Nashs’ business model and they clash immediately, but it’s not all hate between these two! They must find a way to work together to make it through tax season and create a thriving business.

My two cents (spoiler alert):

Sadly, I didn’t actually like Nash or Saige.

Saige annoyed me, because we know she has an 8 year old son and he is probably Nashs’. Plus, the book is written in first person, so I expected at least some inner dialogue worrying about Nash realizing the kid is his, but we don’t get any dialogue like that until almost the end of the book. Why hide it for that long?? Why wasn’t she even a little remorseful for keeping Nash from his son?

Then there’s Nash. He has the emotional intelligence of a rock. He’s a jerk to everyone throughout almost the whole book. He kind of changes towards the end, but I doubt he would have actually changed as quickly as he did.

Plus, he’s suppose to be this super smart business guy, but he fails to notice that Saige’s son looks and acts like he did as a child, and is the right age to be his kid? I’m not buying it.

So, I didn’t really love either of the main characters, BUT I LOVED the sex scenes. Oh my hotness!! Have that relief handy (pun intended)! There were enough scenes to enjoy without you saying, “they’re having sex again?!” I would read this book again for these scenes alone!

PS: rug burns are a real issue with floor sex and I’m glad the author pointed out the perils on non-bed sex! LOL.

Overall, this book is okay. It’s fairly predictable and I know I read a very similar book within the past year or two, but the sex scenes definitely made it worth the read. Give it a shot if hate sex and hot sex scenes are your jam. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: Falling for Your Fake Fiancé

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Falling for Your Fake Fiancé by Emma St. Clair

Exactly as expected

This book can literally be summed by the title. Throw in a former pageant winning southern belle and a hot lawyer and you have the whole book. Let’s do a very quick re-cap, then I’ll give you my two cents 😉

Quick re-cap:

Delilah finds herself fired from a doggy daycare business, but hired as a personal dog sitter for Thayden. At the same time, Thayden discovers he needs to marry within 3 months if he wants to inherit his family law firm. Let the fun begin!

My two cents:

If I could give half stars, this would be a 3.5, but I can’t, so I round up. I was a little underwhelmed with this book.

I felt the book was lacking excitement and there were several opportunities to make it more exciting, but they were all glossed over. The lobster climax scene was good, but it could have been better. What happened to Verity after the lobster incident?? I wanted closure!

Plus, Delilah should have stood up for herself. Instead, she ran. She never seems to stand up for herself except to Thayden. I wanted to see her to be stronger.

Sex would have also made this book more interesting. There’s a few kisses, but that’s it. 3.5 star plots need 5 star sex scenes!

I’ve read a few of these books accidentally and I think I’ve felt the same about everyone. I wish Kindle would warn me! I would not reread this book, so I’m not recommending it. There are plenty of better books out there. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: Not Pretending Anymore

Image via: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/57696044-not-pretending-anymore

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Not Pretending Anymore by Penelope Ward

Great ending!!

I feel like I’m in a book funk. This is the second book where I want to skip most of the middle and jump to the end. Luckily, this one had a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ending! Here’s a quick re-cap and my two cents.

Quick re-cap:

Molly is looking for a roommate and having a terrible time trying to find someone who is “normal.” Then Declan interviews for the roommate position.

Molly doesn’t want a male roommate, so she turns him down. But he doesn’t give up. When he leaves frosted cupcakes on her doorstep, she can no longer ignore him and gives him the roommate position.

Molly and Declan are both interested in other people and they use each other to make the people they’re interested in jealous. Eventually, they develop feelings for each other.

My two cents:

The beginning of this book was super cute. The interviews were pretty funny! I instantly liked this book.

However, once I hit the middle of the book, I became bored. I was tired of the wishy washy feelings they both had. Especially Molly. It took her longer to figure out what was right in front of her face.

In case it’s a turn off, there are mental health, divorce, and cancer themes for several different characters.

The end brought me to tears multiple times. Some sad tears and some happy. Have tissues near by if you’re a crier! I’m super glad I stuck with the book though, because I loved the ending and epilogue.

There was one sex scene at the end of the book. It was fine. This isn’t the type of book you read for sex though. It’s an all about the feels type of book.

If this sounds like a book you might like, then I say go for it. If you get bored easily and like more action filled books, then skip this one. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: (Not) The Boss of Me

Image via: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/55923842-not-the-boss-of-me

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

(Not) The Boss of Me by Kenzie Reed

A-hole Boss Alert!

There are some really good/funny parts in this book! First I’ll do a quick re-cap, then I’ll share my two cents 😉

Quick re-cap:

Winona is a fierce southern bell who starts a war with Blake over starting construction too early in the morning. Their high emotions turn into a mini feud that involves some interesting pranks.

Little does Winona know that Blake is the CEO and owner of Hudson’s; a high end store where Winona desperately wants to work.

Winona scores a job at Hudson’s, but when Blake finds out, he makes her job miserable. He even changes her position to his admin and gives her impossible tasks.

Of course, their anger and frustration is covering for their real feelings. Soon they give into their romantic feelings that leads to more 🥰

My two cents:

I whole heartedly give this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the southernisms, Winona’s family, and the Kitchen Krew. All of these gave the book great heart.

I struggled with Blake a little bit. He seems like the type of guy who would make a decision and keep it, but he hemmed and hawed over the relationship with Winona for a long time. Then he went back on his decision a few times.

He was also a jerk to everyone and thought he could throw money at any problem to make it go away. Yet he is able to turn it around and become a decent human being by the end of the book. I didn’t feel that was realistic.

Besides Blake, I had issues with all the lies revealed at the end of the book. And Blake forgives and overcomes them in the blink of an eye. He’s a better human than me.

There were a few sex scenes. Hmmm…I don’t remember them well. So, they were mediocre and/or too few.

Overall, the book was okay. There was a lot of really great comedic moments. However, it had an interesting mix of seeming too long, but not long enough. I wanted an epilogue or a little bit more at the end and less stuff in the middle.

I’ll leave this decision in your hands. I would probably read this again. So, I recommend reading it if it sounds like a book you might like. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: Text me on Tuesday

Image via: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/57109168-text-me-on-tuesday

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Fairly Good Book

Wow! This is a long review for me!

This book starts out really strong!! Love the opening few chapters. Unfortunately, it went down hill after that and the opening scene magic somewhat sizzles by the end.

Quick re-cap:

Aimee is a caterer in New York. She is a little down on her luck, but she is offered an opportunity to cater a big luncheon. Unfortunately, the guy she’s working with fails to tell her that she can’t wear any perfume on the job.

When she arrives, she’s told about the perfume issue and she needs to take a show in the CEOs (Noel’s) office. After her shower, Noel unexpectedly barges in and she slips into his arms.

Aimee borrows some ill fitting clothes from an employee and caters the rest of the lunch. At the end, Byron (the executive admin), gives her a post it with Noel’s phone number and a message to call. The post it was originally planned for one of the important people in the meeting, but Byron isn’t good with details.

Aimee starts texting Noel thinking she’s texting Byron. Noel pretends to be Byron and learns more about Aimee and starts to develop feelings for her.

My Two Cents:

The meet cute in the beginning of the book is super cute and funny!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Unfortunately, the book kind of loses me after that.

I love accents and hot men, but I don’t love Noel. Noel whines and complains about not having time for a relationship, but he keeps leading Aimee on. He lies to Aimee about a few things in order to maintain his first lie that he’s Byron. He also doesn’t tell anyone at his office that Byron is his brother.

I don’t like liars. Noel lying about being Byron is only the first lie to Aimee and I was put off by this behavior.

Aimee was funny and creative, but stubborn and pig headed. In the end of the book, she finds out about the lie and she turns it into a much bigger deal than most adults I know would have.

I know I said I didn’t like Noel’s lying, but Aimee’s over reaction was a bit intense.

Beyond Aimee and Noel’s personality issues, I was upset about the lack of sex scenes. It normally doesn’t bother me, but I think that since I already had issues with the characters, then I wanted some good sex scenes.

There were also a few places in the book where 3 weeks or more go missing. One really upset me. I wanted the details of what happened! And how do Aimee and Noel go so long without making up if they’re in love??

Overall, there were some good solid RomCom moments that will have you laughing out loud. I loved the intro and several other scenes in the book, but I didn’t love the characters. I won’t be actively seeking other books in this series. You might enjoy this book more if you connect better with the characters. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: Oops, I’ve Fallen

Image via: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/56552082-oops-i-ve-fallen

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I’ve fallen for this book!

Max Monroe has done it again! They are the queens of RomComs and I would bow down to them if I was ever lucky enough to meet them.

Quick Re-Cap:

Free spirited Carly travels to Florida to take care of her equally free spirited mother who broke her tailbone. She runs into Mr. Type A, Ryan, who is taking care of his father, Sal.

Sal and Carly’s mom, Stella, are dating. So, Carly and Ryan spend a lot of time together while taking care of their parents. I’m sure you all know where this is going😉

My two cents:

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! This is an opposites attract RomCom that will have you flat out laughing at least once per chapter.

From stuck up Betty to the smarter than he seems Sal, you will fall in love with all the characters. Especially when you see how Carly’s free spirit rubs off on Ryan’s type A self. Every character is perfect!

As with all Max Monroe books, these have a few intense sex scenes closer to the beginning of the book. I wish there was one more near the end of the book. I felt like I was having a dry spell and could use some relief😆

Overall, this was a super funny and fun book. I highly recommend this and all other Max Monroe books when you’re in the mood for RomComs.

One piece of advice…DO NOT read this before reading any other RomComs. They don’t compare. Switch genres when you’re done for your own benefit.

Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: A Lie for a Lie

Image via: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/44776456-a-lie-for-a-lie

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Oh so sweet!

This is a really sweet romance. If you’re looking for happily ever after and sweetness, then this is your book!

Quick Re-cap:

Lainey falls into RJ’s lap on a flight out to Kodiak, Alaska. She’s afraid of flying and winds up using him as her emotional support person on the flight.

They have an instant attraction and wind up having cabins near each other. They have a fling for a few weeks, but then RJ is suddenly called to go help his brother and they fail to exchange numbers.

As fate would have it, they run into each other again about a year after they separated and the truths are revealed about what happened after they separated.

My two cents:

The title of this book is a bit misleading. I was hoping the lie would be bigger and it would have more action, but the lies were really pretty small and trivial.

Plus, the book was quite predictable. To some degree romances are predictable, but you can guess 90% of the book within the first chapter or two. You can guess the full 100% after they leave Kodiak.

There were some chances to make the book a little more exciting, but the author chose to skip those options 🙁

Lainey and RJ were adorable though. I really sympathized a lot with Lainey due to her anxiety and a lot of the post Kodiak activities she dealt with. She’s a strong woman, which made me really like her. And RJ is the type of guy every girl should be lucky enough to find.

There are some okay sex scenes. I’m glad the author didn’t go into detail every time they had sex, because these two are rabbits!!

Overall, this book is okay. I won’t read the others in the series purposefully, because I like more action and clear climaxes in my books. Give it a try if you want. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: Hunted

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

So hot!!

Oh wow! I have a thing for the paranormal and shifter claiming. There’s something so hot about it! Mates 😍

Quick Re-cap:

Hope was tortured the majority of her life and escapes her tormentors. While running away, she runs into a pack of shifters, but knows nothing about who or what they are. She doesn’t even know much about herself other than she has a monster inside her. She starts to develops feelings for the shifters and a mated romance is born.

My Two Cents:

I really enjoyed most of this book! The intimate scenes (no sex quite yet, but there will be) were really HOT! Like grab your vibrator (or other nearest relief) hot!

I struggled with so much inner dialogue. There was too much. I can only listen to so much self doubt before I start skipping major portions!

Besides the self doubt, you have to be okay with what happened to Hope to read this book. She was surrendered by her mother to the Hunters when she was 6 years old. They started torturing her when she was an early teenager. This wasn’t just verbal abuse. It was the kind of torturing that involves stripping skin and pulling out organs while she’s awake. If you’re a parent, or deeply sensitive person, then this isn’t the right series for you.

I’m going to continue reading this series, because now I feel like I have to know how it ends. I want to know what Hope is, because she obviously isn’t Human. This might be worth the read if you can handle the inner monologues and handle the abusive situation Hope was in. Happy reading y’all!

Book Review: Call Me Crazy

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Call Me Crazy by Melanie Harlow

Funny, sweet and sexy

This was a surprisingly enjoyable quick read! I couldn’t put it down!

Quick re-cap:

Enzo and Bianca enter into a marriage of convenience. Each has a personal goal to achieve. Enzo wants to inherit his family’s business. Bianca wants to have a child. But when they start to develop real feelings for each other things get interesting.

My two cents:

This was a hate turned love story of childhood acquaintances, which made it extra fun, because there was a good backstory between Enzo and Bianca. Plus, the Italian heritage was very well portrayed.

There was a lot of great dialogue and funny parts in the book. I loved that Bianca was an Edward Cullen fan and there was even a vampire scene Enzo tried to create for her. It was horribly, but adorably incorrect. 😂

It’s been a while since I’ve read a book with actual sex scenes. These did NOT disappoint!! You might want to have some relief near by after reading them 😉

Give this book a try! I think you’ll enjoy it as much as I have! Happy reading y’all!!

The Accidental Text by Becky Monson
Grab a box of tissues!

Quick re-cap…

Maggie’s mother dies shortly before the book starts and she texts her mother’s old phone number for several months when on day someone responds. Maggie learns that Chase has her Mom’s old number and they form a bond.

My two cents…

Grab at least one box (maybe two) of tissues if you want to read this book. I cried through the first few chapters and the last. I cried so hard in the beginning that I seriously questioned continuing, but I was hooked.

Maggie is relatable and kind. Chase is equally sweet and kind. They make the perfect couple.

The adventures they go on together are amazing. I feel like I should get out there and do more adventures while I’m still on Earth 😉 Maybe not the sky diving though. Heights aren’t exactly my thing.

There isn’t any sex in this book, so it’s safe for any age that wants to read it. It also isn’t lacking anything without it.

Once I started reading this book, I couldn’t stop. It was very entertaining. I hope you give it a try. Happy reading y’all!

Book Review: A Man Worth Shaving For

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A Man Worth Shaving For by Michelle Pennington
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Surprisingly WORTH IT!

I wasn’t expecting much from this book. I’ve never read this author and if you follow my reviews, you’ll know I don’t read what the book is about before I start reading (unless I’ve discussed it with the author), but the title caught my attention. I’m glad it did, because this book was surprisingly fantastic and totally WORTH IT!

Tessa is a curvy girl who works for a company that specializes in intimate clothing for women of different body shapes and sizes. This company is called…wait for it…Booms and Nibbles (B&N)…LOL.

I couldn’t read that without laughing every single time. In fact, I laughed throughout most of this book.

B&N is in trouble, so the owner hires a consultant, Logan. Logan and Tessa work together to reorganize the company and put people where they can be best utilized. While working together, they realize they have a connection that can’t be ignored.

This is such a good and funny read! I highly recommend it. It’s a shorter read, which can sometimes work against a book, but in this case, it was perfect.

I would have liked to read an epilogue of a few months or years in the future, but it’s okay that it didn’t have it. Everything tied up nicely.

There’s no actual sex in this book. The most you get is some intense kissing scenes. Yet I had butterflies while reading the whole book!

If romcoms are your thing, add this to your worth it list. Happy reading y’all!!

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Midlife Ghost Hunter by Shannon Mayer
Hot, steamy, and not finished yet

I have lost so much sleep to reading this series! It’s hot, sexy (without actual sex), and I can’t put it down!

Breena is arrested for Alan’s murder. She must escape prosecution and head to New Orleans to save her Gran. She must decide who are true friends and who aren’t. If she decides wrong, she might be facing her death. If she decides right, maybe she will create her own family and find love.

I’m constantly amazed at how hot and bothered this book can make someone without there being actual sex. Congrats to the author for that! In fact, congrats to the author for allowing me to feel every emotion Breena feels. I cried when she cried, worried when she worried, and laughed when she laughed.

There isn’t a dull moment here. I couldn’t put it down. I stayed up late, woke up early, and read every second I could. I can’t wait to read the final book in the series! I really hope Breena and Crash wind up together.

This book has so many funny moments! My husband often asked me what I was laughing at. I love that Breena is a little older than me and I can totally relate to her accidentally almost peeing every other minute. When I feel a sneeze coming I run for the toilet, hoping I make it before I actually sneeze. It’s a real thing folks.

This is a must read story for anyone who enjoys fantasy romcoms. I hope you give it a try! Happy reading y’all!!

Midlife Demon Hunter by Shannon Mayer
The excitement keeps coming!

Set aside some serious binge reading time for this series. It sucks you in and won’t let you go!

A very quick overview:

Bree accepts a job with a goblin. Bree meets with the council and befriends an old man who they keep around, but don’t think much of. Bree and Crash get closer. The King of the goblins steals her friends and Bree needs to get them back.

There is action to the very last word. I really couldn’t put this one down. The only downside are all the characters. There are so many that sometimes I forget who is who.

I absolutely love how this author writes from Bree’s point of view. It’s like Bree is telling us this story as she’s living it. It’s more intense than a normal first person narrative. I feel what Bree is feeling. When her heart soars, mine is right there with her. And when she nearly has her heart broken, I want to go drown my sorrows in whiskey along with her.

This is a fantastic series! Seriously dedicate some time to it. Happy reading y’all!!

BETTER THAN THE FIRST!/strong>

Wow wow wow! OMG – I’m going to combust from all the sexual tension between Crash and Breena!

I thought book 1 was really good, but this was even better. It had that can’t eat, can’t sleep, IT factor and I couldn’t put it down!

Quick overview: Crash buys Breena’s grandma’s house and asks her to move in to keep Feish company while he does a job. Breena accepts a job from a Fae Queen and forms her own version of the Hollows with her friends. She also stands up to a few foes and discovers a little bit about her own family lineage.

Really this is a MUST READ series. I hope the next book continues to improve on the really good foundation the first 2 books have provided. I need to stop writing so I can start reading the next book. Happy reading y’all!!

40 and kicking ass

Nice fantasy/sci-fi adventure book! I’m looking forward to reading more in this series!

Breena is a 40+ year old recently divorced woman who returns to her hometown of Savannah to get back to her roots. Her ex has stolen her grandmother’s house and she is trying to earn money to buy it back.

I really liked how Breena is starting to gain confidence and own herself in this first book. I love when she cops an attitude and kicks ass.

I’m nearing 40 and totally get all the body aches and pains that you don’t have at 20. I can also sympathize with a lot of Breena’s thoughts about the younger kids.

Even with all this good there were a few things that annoyed me. I didn’t like how Breena kept referring to her ex as Himself. I wish she would have used a different nickname or explained it a lot earlier in the book. Also, I got really tired of heard how old and out of shape she is. She did too. Lol.

Overall, this is a solid book and I’m looking forward to continuing with this series. If you’re looking for this type of book you might enjoy it. It’s worth the try. Happy reading y’all!!
