(Not) The Boss of Me by Kenzie Reed

A-hole Boss Alert!

There are some really good/funny parts in this book! First I’ll do a quick re-cap, then I’ll share my two cents 😉

Quick re-cap:

Winona is a fierce southern bell who starts a war with Blake over starting construction too early in the morning. Their high emotions turn into a mini feud that involves some interesting pranks.

Little does Winona know that Blake is the CEO and owner of Hudson’s; a high end store where Winona desperately wants to work.

Winona scores a job at Hudson’s, but when Blake finds out, he makes her job miserable. He even changes her position to his admin and gives her impossible tasks.

Of course, their anger and frustration is covering for their real feelings. Soon they give into their romantic feelings that leads to more 🥰

My two cents:

I whole heartedly give this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the southernisms, Winona’s family, and the Kitchen Krew. All of these gave the book great heart.

I struggled with Blake a little bit. He seems like the type of guy who would make a decision and keep it, but he hemmed and hawed over the relationship with Winona for a long time. Then he went back on his decision a few times.

He was also a jerk to everyone and thought he could throw money at any problem to make it go away. Yet he is able to turn it around and become a decent human being by the end of the book. I didn’t feel that was realistic.

Besides Blake, I had issues with all the lies revealed at the end of the book. And Blake forgives and overcomes them in the blink of an eye. He’s a better human than me.

There were a few sex scenes. Hmmm…I don’t remember them well. So, they were mediocre and/or too few.

Overall, the book was okay. There was a lot of really great comedic moments. However, it had an interesting mix of seeming too long, but not long enough. I wanted an epilogue or a little bit more at the end and less stuff in the middle.

I’ll leave this decision in your hands. I would probably read this again. So, I recommend reading it if it sounds like a book you might like. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: Oops, I’ve Fallen

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I’ve fallen for this book!

Max Monroe has done it again! They are the queens of RomComs and I would bow down to them if I was ever lucky enough to meet them.

Quick Re-Cap:

Free spirited Carly travels to Florida to take care of her equally free spirited mother who broke her tailbone. She runs into Mr. Type A, Ryan, who is taking care of his father, Sal.

Sal and Carly’s mom, Stella, are dating. So, Carly and Ryan spend a lot of time together while taking care of their parents. I’m sure you all know where this is going😉

My two cents:

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! This is an opposites attract RomCom that will have you flat out laughing at least once per chapter.

From stuck up Betty to the smarter than he seems Sal, you will fall in love with all the characters. Especially when you see how Carly’s free spirit rubs off on Ryan’s type A self. Every character is perfect!

As with all Max Monroe books, these have a few intense sex scenes closer to the beginning of the book. I wish there was one more near the end of the book. I felt like I was having a dry spell and could use some relief😆

Overall, this was a super funny and fun book. I highly recommend this and all other Max Monroe books when you’re in the mood for RomComs.

One piece of advice…DO NOT read this before reading any other RomComs. They don’t compare. Switch genres when you’re done for your own benefit.

Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: The Promise of Hades

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Yes yes yes!!

This whole series is phenomenal! I think I’m going to continue to read these books until I’m sick of Greek mythology. Haha.

In this book, Persephone faces her final trials. Her brother Sam comes from the mortal world to Olympus with her. Persephone and Hades discover who is after her and what their end game is and we find out who will be Hades’ new bride.

Everything about this book was done so well. We even got to see Buddy come back for one final scene. The writer(s) did a great job of bringing everything together and tying up most loose ends, but allowing room for spin offs and sequels.

If you enjoy Greek mythology, you should be reading this series! These are quick reads that you won’t be able to put down. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: The Passion of Hades

The Passion of Hades by Eliza Raine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It keeps getting better!!

Wow! This series has me hooked! I can’t wait to start the next book!

Persy moves onto round two of the trials and regains some of her previous power. In this book she faces some scary sea monsters and endurance tests. She also starts regaining her bond with Hades. Yay!!

There was more sex related scenes in this book than the last. I have no doubt that if this book continues on its current path, there will be some sex scenes in our future.

There is so much action, adventure, romance, and mystery in this book that it’s very difficult to put down! Luckily, it’s also short, so you won’t be lacking sleep for too long while you stay up reading it. 😂

Give this series a try if Greek mythology is your thing. This is definitely worth it! Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: The Power of Hades

The Power of Hades by Eliza Raine
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Yes Yes Yes!! This a great quick read fantasy book! I’ve already moved onto the second book before writing this, because I couldn’t take the time to stop and review this one. I had to start reading the next one now!

Knowing a little Greek mythology might help you in this book, but it’s not necessary, because Persephone (the leading female) doesn’t remember her own history. So, we’re all learning the history together.

In this book, Persephone (Persy), is a human living a normal life in New York, when she’s abducted by Zeus and taken to the Underworld. There, she’s forced to compete to be Hades bride. However, she quickly finds out she was previously a powerful and feared goddess who was married to Hades. In order to live, she must compete in the trials against gods and demigods who all have powers, while she’s still a human.

There’s a fair amount of grammar mistakes throughout this book, but there aren’t enough to detract from the overall book. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book with this many though, so I feel like it’s worth mentioning in case you’re put off by that.

There aren’t any sex scenes, but there are a few scenes that start to look like they’re heading in that direction. Maybe in some future books there will be some? It doesn’t really need them, the plot and writing is great on it’s own.

Overall, this is a fantastic book! Kudos to the authors! If you’re a fantasy reader, definitely consider adding this to your must read list. Happy reading y’all!

Book Review: Happily Letter After

Happily Letter AfterHappily Letter After by Vi Keeland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sadie + Sebastian forever

I LOVE fate books. This fate book hits you right in the feels and you won’t be able to put it down!

Here’s a little about the book:

Sadie is a dating columnist who also does the Santa wishes in the winter. In the summer, she receives a Santa letter from a little girl who reminds her a lot of herself and can’t help but honor the little girl’s request.

This one request snowballs into multiple requests and eventually leads to Sadie becoming the little girls dog trainer and a huge crush on the little girl’s Dad, Sebastian.

Here’s what makes this book special:

This book has that IT factor that made it hard to put down. Every time you were about to put it down, something else would happen and you convince yourself you just need to get past this event. That event leads to another and another and pretty soon you realize it’s 3 am and your alarm is going off in 3 hours. Dang!

There are a few well done and realistic sex scenes and a lot of lead up to the first scene. Yippee! Nicely done ladies!

More than anything else, Sadie really impressed me. The way she embraces the death of Sebastian’s wife, Amanda, and ensures their little girl never forgets her is amazing. Her mindset and lack of jealousy shows incredibly mature she is for her age. I absolutely loved her way of handling every situation.

Finally, the end had me in tears of happiness. Even recalling reading it is making me tear up. Even though I understood why they did it, I was so mad when they tore up the letter without reading it, but don’t give up folks! Read all the way through the final epilogue. You will get the answer you’re looking for 😉

This is a must read! I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: Single Dad Seeks Juliet

Single Dad Seeks JulietSingle Dad Seeks Juliet by Max Monroe
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Better than a Romeo and Juliet

Max Monroe delivers another hilarious 🤣 page turning RomCom! You won’t want to put this one down!

Jake is a single dad, who’s teenage daughter signs him up for a Bachelor Anonymous contest to try and have him meet a woman through a series of blind dates who he will fall in love with. Holley is the reporter assigned to documenting and organizing the dates. Little does she know, she’s the one who is falling in love with the Bachelor.

This book is so good! I had forgotten how funny Max Monroe is. My husband asked me a few times what was so funny while I was reading. I read some of the parts to him and he snickered too!

I normally love strong funny women leads. Holley isn’t the kind of strong who would be a leading FBI agent, but she is the kind of strong who goes after what she wants when she figures out what that is. She may do it in an awkward and often hilarious way, but she will do it.

Speaking of doing it 😉 For those of you interested, there is one sex scene. By the time it comes around, you’re already so worked up from the previous “almost sex” events, the release is definitely needed!

Overall, this book is definitely worth the read! And hopefully I’ll remember to read Garret’s story when it comes out. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: A Temporary Marriage

A Temporary Marriage (Fake Love #1)A Temporary Marriage by Summer Dowell
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I’m glad this book was temporary

This is a perfectly fine romance if you’re looking for a very mild Hallmarky romance. Two kisses, little to no drama, and no real climaxes (of either kind) sum up this book. I’ll give you a little overview, then we can talk more about my thoughts 😉

Ryan and Kylee have known each other for several years. Kylee has had a secret crush on Ryan, but he’s never showed any interest other than friends. Ryan has a disaster at work that leaves him wanting access to his trust fund, which he can only access after he marries. So, he asks Kylee to fake marry him.

I’ll let you read the rest of the book if you want, but I won’t be encouraging it. This book is seriously lacking that IT factor. It’s written in third person, which in itself is NOT a bad thing, but this one spends a lot of time monologuing about the same three things.

1. Does he/she actually like me? Or are they pretending?
2. I don’t like deceiving these really nice people.
3. What will happen when we split?

If you enjoy reading those three things over and over, then this is a good book for you. Also, if you’re looking for something mild and quick, then this is also a good book.

Me? I like strong female leads who get stuff done. They’re funny, witty, and charismatic. This is not that type of book. Kylee is not that type of girl. She’s meek and mild and I forgot her name when I went to write this.

Anyhow, if you’re looking for the next great page turner, this is definitely not that book. There were a few funny moments, but not enough to call this a RomCom. There was such a small climax that I wondered if I missed it. And overall, this book was generally lacking.

I won’t be reading the other books in this series. Happy reading y’all!!
