Book Review: Dare Number One: Kiss Like You Mean It

Image via: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/56965683-dare-number-one

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

Too short

This really short book is cute and fun, but it’s not my speed.

I’m not going to lie, I downloaded it for the title. I enjoyed the idea of the dare, which is exactly what this book was. No more and no less.

Holly and Cameron were friends growing up, but Holly always had a crush on him.

Now, their friend Michelle is having a truth or dare contest of sorts. All dares must be completed with another person.

Holly chooses her crush, Cameron to do the dare with. The dare winds up being to kiss Cameron, take a video, and post it to social media.

I’ve just explained enough of the book to get you to 50%. If I give you anymore, you won’t need to read the book.

I was really hoping for more. More plot, more book, just more. I think this book took place over two days, but hours go missing. One minute Holly is making waffles and the next Cameron is ordering Chinese. Sorry guys, now you’re at 75% book completion.

The kissing scenes – crap 80%- were good and steamy. 🤣 Literally steamy 🤣 85%. Don’t expect more than heavy petting though. This is definitely PG-13 friendly. Sex isn’t mentioned or attempted.

There were also a few editing issues. The biggest was was Katia’s name was Katie in a few spots. I’m still not sure what her name actually is?

Overall, this book is fine. It’s really too short to be amazing. Personally, I wouldn’t read it. I’m sure you can figure out how it ends. Maybe read it if you only have a few hours to read and want to finish an entire book in that time. Otherwise move on folks, there’s plenty of other books out there. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: Drop Dead Gorgeous

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Absolutely NOT Dreadful

Be still my geeky heart ❤️ This book is made for trivia loving, socially awkward geeks!

Zoey and Blake meet when Zoey crashes into his car. Zoey is the county coroner and Blake is an insurance agent. Through a serendipitous event where Zoey winds up doing the autopsy on someone who had a life insurance policy through Blake’s company, Zoey and Blake wind up working together to figure out how the man died.

There was a lot I enjoyed about this book! Zoey is my favorite type of character! She’s quirky, funny, and emotionally grows throughout the book. I loved her talking to dead bodies and the random trivia game her and Blake played.

More importantly, I think everyone deserves a boyfriend like Blake. He always puts Zoey first. He realized she was touching wooden objects for luck, so he went out and bought a bunch of wooden objects to put around his house, so she would always have something lucky to touch. And he embraces and loves everything that makes her who she is without trying to change her.

Give this book a try if it sounds like a good fit for you. It’s pretty good! Happy reading y’all!

Book Review: Happily Letter After

Happily Letter AfterHappily Letter After by Vi Keeland
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sadie + Sebastian forever

I LOVE fate books. This fate book hits you right in the feels and you won’t be able to put it down!

Here’s a little about the book:

Sadie is a dating columnist who also does the Santa wishes in the winter. In the summer, she receives a Santa letter from a little girl who reminds her a lot of herself and can’t help but honor the little girl’s request.

This one request snowballs into multiple requests and eventually leads to Sadie becoming the little girls dog trainer and a huge crush on the little girl’s Dad, Sebastian.

Here’s what makes this book special:

This book has that IT factor that made it hard to put down. Every time you were about to put it down, something else would happen and you convince yourself you just need to get past this event. That event leads to another and another and pretty soon you realize it’s 3 am and your alarm is going off in 3 hours. Dang!

There are a few well done and realistic sex scenes and a lot of lead up to the first scene. Yippee! Nicely done ladies!

More than anything else, Sadie really impressed me. The way she embraces the death of Sebastian’s wife, Amanda, and ensures their little girl never forgets her is amazing. Her mindset and lack of jealousy shows incredibly mature she is for her age. I absolutely loved her way of handling every situation.

Finally, the end had me in tears of happiness. Even recalling reading it is making me tear up. Even though I understood why they did it, I was so mad when they tore up the letter without reading it, but don’t give up folks! Read all the way through the final epilogue. You will get the answer you’re looking for 😉

This is a must read! I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: Single Dad Seeks Juliet

Single Dad Seeks JulietSingle Dad Seeks Juliet by Max Monroe
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Better than a Romeo and Juliet

Max Monroe delivers another hilarious 🤣 page turning RomCom! You won’t want to put this one down!

Jake is a single dad, who’s teenage daughter signs him up for a Bachelor Anonymous contest to try and have him meet a woman through a series of blind dates who he will fall in love with. Holley is the reporter assigned to documenting and organizing the dates. Little does she know, she’s the one who is falling in love with the Bachelor.

This book is so good! I had forgotten how funny Max Monroe is. My husband asked me a few times what was so funny while I was reading. I read some of the parts to him and he snickered too!

I normally love strong funny women leads. Holley isn’t the kind of strong who would be a leading FBI agent, but she is the kind of strong who goes after what she wants when she figures out what that is. She may do it in an awkward and often hilarious way, but she will do it.

Speaking of doing it 😉 For those of you interested, there is one sex scene. By the time it comes around, you’re already so worked up from the previous “almost sex” events, the release is definitely needed!

Overall, this book is definitely worth the read! And hopefully I’ll remember to read Garret’s story when it comes out. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: A Temporary Marriage

A Temporary Marriage (Fake Love #1)A Temporary Marriage by Summer Dowell
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I’m glad this book was temporary

This is a perfectly fine romance if you’re looking for a very mild Hallmarky romance. Two kisses, little to no drama, and no real climaxes (of either kind) sum up this book. I’ll give you a little overview, then we can talk more about my thoughts 😉

Ryan and Kylee have known each other for several years. Kylee has had a secret crush on Ryan, but he’s never showed any interest other than friends. Ryan has a disaster at work that leaves him wanting access to his trust fund, which he can only access after he marries. So, he asks Kylee to fake marry him.

I’ll let you read the rest of the book if you want, but I won’t be encouraging it. This book is seriously lacking that IT factor. It’s written in third person, which in itself is NOT a bad thing, but this one spends a lot of time monologuing about the same three things.

1. Does he/she actually like me? Or are they pretending?
2. I don’t like deceiving these really nice people.
3. What will happen when we split?

If you enjoy reading those three things over and over, then this is a good book for you. Also, if you’re looking for something mild and quick, then this is also a good book.

Me? I like strong female leads who get stuff done. They’re funny, witty, and charismatic. This is not that type of book. Kylee is not that type of girl. She’s meek and mild and I forgot her name when I went to write this.

Anyhow, if you’re looking for the next great page turner, this is definitely not that book. There were a few funny moments, but not enough to call this a RomCom. There was such a small climax that I wondered if I missed it. And overall, this book was generally lacking.

I won’t be reading the other books in this series. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: Falling for Your Best Friend’s Twin

Falling for Your Best Friend's Twin (Love Clichés, #1)Falling for Your Best Friend’s Twin by Emma St. Clair
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Abby + Zane forever

Abby is a cute and quirky computer programmer who is hired to diagnose and fix a bug Zane’s company has with their software. Zane is also Abby’s best friend, Zoey’s, HOT twin brother.

Zane and Abby have known each other for a while, but this is the first time they’ve been this close. Abby has always had a little crush on Zane, but now her crush has escalated.

Will they get together? Does Zane feel the same way for Abby? I’ll give you a hint…

This book would make a good Hallmark movie! They could even have sequels for each of Abby’s friends!

The Hallmark hint also included the lack of sex in the book. There isn’t anything other than kissing. So, if you’re looking for a hot and steamy romance that’ll have you reaching for relief, this isn’t the right book for you.

However, if you’re looking for a book that’ll have you laughing out loud. Look no further. Emma St. Clair delivered comedy like a pro. This book had me cracking up several times. Give this book a try. It was a good one! Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: Whiskey Chaser

Whiskey Chaser (Bootleg Springs, #1)Whiskey Chaser by Lucy Score
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Bootleg Justice for the win!

This book is wonderful! I love the southernisms and characters. Scarlet is a hoot and a half. I love her spirit. She's a ball busting, confident woman that most women hope to be. She stands up for what's right and doesn't take no for an answer.

I wish I lived in a place like Bootleg, where family is everything and Bootleg is family. There’s a missing girl unsolved mystery thrown in to make things interesting and a fair amount of steamy sex!

I was super excited there was an epilogue. AND the epilogue included sneak peaks (but not too much) about the brothers. Loved this!

Give this book a try. You'll be laughing through most of it! I hope you love it as much as me. Happy reading y’all!

Book Review: My (Mostly) Fake Romance

My (Mostly) Fake Wedding (My Mostly Funny Romance #2)My (Mostly) Fake Wedding by Penelope Bloom
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A (mostly) good book

This book wasn’t quite as good as the first one in the series, but it was funny and cute. I didn’t have that same “can’t put it down” feeling though.

In this book, Chris is about to be kicked off his football team and Damon sets him up with a fake marriage to help keep him on the team.

Chris is a big man-child. Everything is a joke, except for his feelings for Belle. He needs to come to his senses and tell Belle how he really feels before it’s too late.

Belle is a wedding planner who was recently humiliated at a wedding she was planning for her childhood sweetheart. She signs on to help plan Chris’ wedding, but can’t set aside her feelings for him.

Lots of great scenes in this book! From the mile high club walk of shame to the flower garden in Europe, I enjoyed so much of this!

If you’re looking for the same level of sex as the first book, I think you’ll be disappointed. I felt like the first book had more/better sex scenes, but this one had more humor.

Give this book and series a try. It’s a solid pick for your next reading indulgence. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: My (Mostly) Secret Baby

My (Mostly) Secret Baby (My Mostly Funny Romance #1)My (Mostly) Secret Baby by Penelope Bloom
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Grumpy Boss with Heart of Gold

Penelope Bloom delivers another great - couldn’t put it down - RomCom. I laughed, cried, and loved every bit of this book!

Chelsea is the most stubborn person I have ever known. She can’t step back from a challenge and when she meets this grumpy, stuck-up man while crashing a PR conference, she gets sucked into a challenge she can’t say no to. The challenge? He can make her yell “yes!” as she hits a big O.

The book then jumps 5 years ahead and Chelsea is in a place in her life where she needs to go to Mr Grumpy for a job. She gets the job and the sexual tension builds and builds.

This book will seriously have you reaching for relief! There are lots of love scenes and fantasies. You won’t be left hanging in that department.

Give this a read if you’re looking for a fun/funny RomCom book. Happy reading y’all!

Book Review: My Big Fat Fake Honeymoon

My Big Fat Fake HoneymoonMy Big Fat Fake Honeymoon by Lauren Landish
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lorenzo to the Rescue

The youngest Andrews, Abi, gets herself in the craziest messes! This time, she tells a childhood nemesis she’s on her honeymoon with Lorenzo, a chef she only met once at her sister’s wedding.

Abi is crazy and fun and everything you want in a bestie. She lives her life doing what she wants and has created a flower business from the ground up, because she loves making flower arrangements.

Lorenzo is a bastard chef who flits from kitchen to kitchen around the world. Originally from Italy, he makes amazing fettuccini that a famous bride to be must have at her wedding, which sends him to Aruba to work on the same wedding as Abi.

Lorenzo is the biker, tatted up, Italian speaking bad boy that women dream about having in bed. He may be this “bastard” chef on the surface, but he’s actually an awesome guy. He’s the sweetest to Abi and he has you saying, “awwww...” practically every time he opens his mouth.

Read this book! You’ll enjoy everything about it. From the vibrator grabbing sex scenes to Jane’s cut a bitch craziness this book is great! Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: How to Wife Your Nanny

How To Wife Your NannyHow To Wife Your Nanny by Melinda Minx
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Cute fast read

If you’re looking for a sweet and fast read, choose this book!

Noah and Lacey kind of have a history together. Noah’s company is the publisher for Lacey’s books, but his company hasn’t been very fair to her. When his daughter starts reading and enjoying the books, he sets out to meet Lacey and convince her to write more books. But it’s not as easy as just asking and soon Noah needs a nanny too. So, Noah convinces Lacey to be his daughter’s Nanny and write more books for $1 million dollars.

This book is cute and sweet, so don’t expect an action packed adventure. There are a few funny parts to enjoy and a small climax where the characters need to prove their relationship. I really liked the Chance Charter rip off of Harry Potter parts.

There were a few small sex scenes that were solid. They weren’t so great that you’ll need relief, but they were well done.

Give this book a try. It’s a good romance that’ll have you saying awwww. Happy reading y’all!

Book Review: Hate the Player

Hate the Player (Hollywood #3)Hate the Player by Max Monroe
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Love the player!!

This book had me from the moment it started! Max Monroe delivers another solid RomCom book. I laughed, I cried, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Birdie Harris is a country singer who lands a role in a movie with lead actor Andrew Watson. Andrew is Hollywood’s biggest player while Birdie seems to be something of America’s sweetheart. They begin a hate turned love romance that will hit you in all the feels. We even get to see Billie and Luca return in this book with a pregnant Billie!!

Solid sex scenes and sweet romance complete an already great book.

This book is part of a series, but could definitely be read as a stand alone. Whatever you do, make sure you read it! Happy reading y’all!

Book Review: Faking it with the Frenemy

Faking It with the FrenemyFaking It with the Frenemy by Nadia Lee
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The evil queen tries to destroy everyone’s happiness

Ok, so maybe I’ve been watching too much Once Upon a time, but it just came to Disney+, so who can blame me?? And really, there is an Evil Queen trying to destroy Kim and Wyatt’s romance since it started.

Kim and Wyatt were together when they were younger and Wyatt was Kim’s first. Unfortunately they broke up and hated each other every day after.

Then Kim’s boss made a bet that forced Kim to work with Wyatt. Their attraction is stronger than ever and they can only resist each other for so long. They need to overcome their past in order to succeed in the future.

I liked the general plot and characters. As a mom, I felt really bad for Vi and wanted to run Geneva over with my car. I wasn’t alone in that sentiment. I have a feeling there is a line of people who want to do that and Yuna will probably beat them all.

Kim isn’t my favorite type of character. I like stronger women and while she is strong(ish), there’s something about her that’s very fragile feeling. She’s still pretty insecure for an almost thirty year old.

Overall this book is okay. There are some really funny lines and it’s worth the read. I might come across some of the other books in this series and I’ll probably enjoy them similarly, but I’m not rushing to go read them all. Give this a shot though, it’s a good book. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: The Rock Star’s Fake Fiancée

The Rock Star's Fake Fiancée (A Second Chance at Love Romantic Comedy) (Fake It Till You Make It Book 3)The Rock Star's Fake Fiancée (A Second Chance at Love Romantic Comedy) by Kenzie Reed
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rockin rockin burnin love

It’s great returning to Swampy bottom and meeting the man Careful/Cautious Callie falls in love with! We also get to revisit our favorite characters from the previous books and see how they’re doing today.

This book could definitely be read alone or with the series. It’s a great read. I love Gramma Mae and the trouble she gets up to. Plus, we meet a new troublemaker, Fiona.

The sex scenes are fine, but they aren’t the type that have you running for a vibrator or desperately reaching for your significant other.

This is a solid read and I hope there will be more in the series. I love these characters and this small down. Everyone could use a town like Bitters End. Give this book a try. Happy reading y’all!!

Book Review: The Takeover (The Miles High Club #2)

The Takeover (The Miles High Club #2)The Takeover by T.L. Swan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Take me over Tristan!

Such a great book! I laughed, cried and thoroughly enjoyed this second book in the Miles High Club series.

This book was a story about Tristan and Claire. I didn’t love Claire, but I did love how she loves Tristan. I haven’t lost a husband, so it’s hard to completely understand some of Claire’s decisions.

There were some parts of this book that were so funny that I worried I would wake my husband sleeping next to me. There were other parts that were so touching that I cried like a baby. And there were other parts that were so hot that you need relief from them.

My only critique was that the book seemed to end rather suddenly. I would have liked more time with the characters or an epilogue that was about 5-10 years in the future. I know there’s a fine line between finishing too soon and dragging on, but it felt a little unfinished. Read it and see what you think!

Overall, this is a really good book. I highly suggest you give this series a try. Happy reading y’all!!
