Hallmark Movie Review: Never Been Chris’d

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/never-been-chrisd

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

My reverse harem reading self was slightly hoping this would turn into a ménage à trois movie. But that’s definitely a little too risqué for sweet Hallmark. As disappointing as that is, this movie is anything but disappointing! Here’s a quick recap and my two cents 😉

Quick Recap

Liz and Naomi had high school crushes on the popular guy Chris Silver. He had so many girl friends, that they use to call his love conquests “Chris’d.” Now they’re back home for the holidays and continue to run into their hotter than ever high school crush. Will one or both of them become Chris’d?

My Two Cents

My favorite movie I’ve watched so far this season! It’s lighthearted, funny, and surprisingly deep (if you want it to be). And even though it wasn’t Hallmark’s first ménage à trois movie, it was still entertaining!

Initially it looked like this movie would provide more cat fighting over Chris, but instead it focused more on Naomi and Liz’s relationship, which I truly felt. It’s hard growing up with your best friend and at the end of high school you either part ways and go to different Universities or stay together.

Both decisions come with potential issues. For Naomi and Liz those potential issues come to a head. And they need to determine how their relationship will evolve to overcome their challenges. I loved how this story line played out!

Then there was Chris. Not gonna lie, he isn’t my favorite Hallmark character. I really didn’t like how he lied about being vegan. Did we ever receive an explanation for it?! I didn’t feel like we did and I didn’t understand what purpose the lie served?

Despite Chris not being my favorite character, I still really enjoyed the movie. Maybe Hallmark will do a sequel where Naomi and Chris breakup and Chris and Liz start something, but then they break it off and both Naomi and Liz find someone better? It could be fun Hallmark! You can call it Better than Chris’d 🙂

If you have a chance, try this movie. It’s a fun way to spend a quiet evening without tears. Haha. Let me know what you thought! Leave a comment!

Hallmark Movie Review: Three Wise Men and a Baby

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/three-wise-men-and-a-baby

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

It’s so much fun having a Hallmark movie that isn’t the typical boy meets girl Hallmark movie. While keeping a little romance, this one focused more on the relationship of three sweet brothers. Here’s a quick recap and my two cents 😉

Quick Recap

Brothers Stephan, Taylor, and Luke have grown apart over the years. But when a baby is dropped off at the fire station with Luke’s name called out, the brothers band together to take care of him.

My Two Cents

Three of my favorite Hallmark leading men together with a baby?!? I think my ovaries are exploding! They were all so cute taking care of little Thomas. 😃

Plus, taking care of Thomas brought the three brothers closer together. And made them realize how amazing their Mom was to take care of all three of them without ever complaining. I’m not sure how their Mom did that either. She must be a saint!

As if all that wasn’t enough…there was also a Kimberley Sustad cameo!! YES!! I loved it! I’ve been waiting for a cameo all season!!

The whole movie felt very natural and fun. I really liked watching these three together and I sincerely hope they do more collaborations! Especially if they’re going to put together more ridiculously crazy dances. LOL.

There was all the typical baby drama you would expect in a movie like this. Accidentally switching the baby, trying to do regular activities with a baby, and changing diapers were all fun little scenes. I loved when Thomas fell asleep and the guys suddenly became statues. Yup, we’ve all been there guys!

I think the majority of Hallmark lovers will find something to enjoy about this movie. I’m sure I’m a little biased in my review, because seriously, these are three of my favorite leads and it’s very rare we have more than one Hallmark star in a movie.

If you like dorky comedies that are light on the romance, then give this movie a try. But if you’re looking for a steamy romance, then this isn’t your jam. I hope you enjoyed it!

Hallmark Movie Review: An Unexpected Christmas

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/an-unexpected-christmas

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Funny and feels worthy! Can you ask for more in a Hallmark movie? This is definitely a movie to watch this year! Here’s a quick re-cap and my two cents.

Quick Re-Cap

Emily was planning on taking a Hawaiian vacation, but instead is sent to the hometown of her ex-boyfriend, Jamie, for a work project that a coworker wasn’t able to complete. By happenstance Jamie and Emily arrive in town at the same time and Jamie’s sister thinks she’s there to spend the holiday’s with them. Emily is unable to use her coworker’s hotel reservation, so she spends the week with Jamie’s family while pretending she’s still his girlfriend.

My Two Cents

First things first…was I the only person searching faces in the crowds for an Andrew Walker cameo?! Since Tyler cameo’d in Walker’s My Christmas Family Tree, it seemed only fitting that we would see Andrew in this one. And then I saw him!! Andrew runs into Jamie in the bar at about 1 hour into the movie for those who want to catch the scene 🙂

Since Paul Campbell was in Kimberley Sustad’s movie, I think I’m going to go back and re-watch The Santa Stakeout again and see if Kimberley is an undiscovered Easter egg somewhere in there 🙂 Did anyone notice her? If so, where??

Okay, moving on from the Hallmark Easter egg cameos. This movie has lots of humor and heart. I was laughing for most of the movie and swooning for the rest. These are my favorite movies. The romcom’s with lots of heart.

The heart came through especially strong in many of the family scenes. Like the explanation of the ornaments on the tree, the story of the sleigh falling off the roof, or when Jamie’s Mom tells Emily that she always has a home with them. Extra heart-worthy was when Jamie and Emily are outside by the fountain and he shares the tradition of the family members writing their initials on the stones and putting them in the fountain. 😍

But the swooniest (yup, I like making up new words at night) moment was when Jamie asked his Dad, “How’d you know she’s the one?” His Dad’s answer was so simple and perfect, “Whenever we’re apart, I feel like there’s a piece of me missing.” Then at the end of the movie when Emily leaves – c’mon, you knew that would happen! – everyone says they feel like a piece of them is missing. Seriously y’all, soooo sweet. 😍😍

Like I said, this movie isn’t all feels. It’s also fantastic amounts of funny 🙂 The scenes with the waiter were some of my favorites. Keep an eye out for him in the last two minutes of the movie. That little nugget was totally worth it! LOL.

Honestly though there are too many cute/funny moments to list. Tyler and Bethany did a fantastic job with their characters. And they weren’t the only ones! Alison Wandzura was great as Jamie’s sister Becca!

I’m sure we’ve all threatened to tell our parents about a secret our sibling was trying to keep, right? So, I loved when Becca threatened to tell the secret to their parents if Jamie wouldn’t agree to be in the show and Emily had to work concessions. It’s dog eat dog in show business folks 😉

This movie is definitely on my Countdown to Christmas must watch list. It’ll probably make my all time favorites list too. I have a feeling I could watch it anytime and enjoy it just the same. Give it a try folks! I hope you like it as much as I did!!

Hallmark Movie Review: Roadhouse Romance

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/roadhouse-romance

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

I feel like I was watching previews for this movie forever and the song Callie was singing really stayed in my head for hours after the commercial played! So, I had high hopes for the movie. But music alone cannot carry a movie and sadly, much of the movie didn’t do it for me.

Quick Re-Cap

Callie returns to her hometown after being deployed for two years. She quickly realizes a lot has changed during her deployment. While being overwhelmed from it all, she backs up her truck and Luke happens to run into it. It will take a few days to fix the car, so Luke and his agent, Dan, take a room at Tucker’s Roadhouse while they wait. This allows Callie and Luke time to get to know each other.

My Two Cents

I’m sorry y’all, but this movie didn’t do it for me. It wasn’t anything huge, it was a lot of little things…

  • Terrible lip syncing
  • Timeline issues…Callie left her high school boyfriend, was gone two years, then came back. Wouldn’t that make her 20/21? She’s definitely not 20. Luke is suppose to be a director. He would have to be more than 20. It feels like we’re missing something here.
  • The Hollywood girlfriend for Luke and ex high school boyfriend wanting Callie back aren’t needed for this story. They could have played up Luke being a Hollywood jerk instead and the restaurant needing help and left these two sidelines alone.
  • A DPT (physical therapist) works in a restaurant as a civilian? Why not continue the DPT work? – I heard this answered towards the end of the movie, but it bothered me until then.
  • The car’s purpose
  • The fake scenery during the car rides

Don’t get me wrong, there was several things I enjoyed.

  • The chemistry between Callie and Luke felt real and sweet.
  • I love small town romances, so that was a definite win.
  • Callie’singing.
  • George Jones was a musician, so it’s a fitting dog name in this town
  • The dog chase scene was super cute
  • Dan’s love of food. I’m not sure why I loved him indulging in food so much, but I really did.
  • The recipe location – this scene made me cry!
  • Dan’s romance with Callie’s Aunt

Overall, this is an okay movie. It was really hard for me to get into and I felt like it moved slow, but it was okay. There were parts of it that were really good, but an equal number of parts that were boring. I can’t really recommend it, but I wouldn’t tell you not to watch it either. It hangs in that weird place between. Maybe you won’t mind all the little things that annoyed me. Happy watching y’all!!

Hallmark Movie Review: Sweet Carolina

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/sweet-carolina

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I forgot there was a movie Saturday night!! It wasn’t just any movie either…it was a Lacey Chabert movie! How on Earth did I forget?? I don’t even know. Zach and I went rollerblading Friday night. So, last night Jeff and I were chilling and I finished a book and before I knew it, it was 10:30. I was done with my book, but I completely missed the movie.

I made sure I caught it tonight on replay and I’m beyond glad I did! This was a shockingly good movie! I wasn’t expecting it because the previews showed the death of parents, which usually means I won’t enjoy the movie, because it’ll be too sad. However, this is also a romcom!

Here’s a quick movie re-cap and my full two cents 🙂

Movie Re-cap

Josie’s sister and husband are in a car accident and are killed. They leave behind their two children. In their will, they appointed Josie as the guardian. Josie has to move from New York City back to her hometown to take care of her teenage niece and nephew. While there, she reconnects with her high school sweetheart, Cooper.

My Two Cents

Generally, I dislike movies where parents die and kids are involved. They’re usually too sad and I cry half the movie. Now, it could have been the time of the month, but I didn’t cry at all during this movie. I almost did during the bracelet scene, because that was so sweet, but really the movie was so funny and cute that there were very few sad moments.

Beyond the parents dying theme, this movie was a surprise romcom AND second chance high school sweet heart movie. If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, then you’ll know those are two of my FAVORITE themes! They strongly overpowered the death of the parents and I could almost forget the sad parts.

Combine my favorite themes with Lacey Chabert (one of my girl crushes) and Tyler Hynes (who has been growing on me over the past few movies) and you have HALLMARK GOLD. These two were so funny and cute together. My heart practically burst when they kissed at the end of the movie! Now her first kiss can be her last. Awwww…

I also need to give a shout out to the kids. I loved how the movie explored their emotions, reactions to their parents dying, and their Aunt becoming their mom. Plus Cooper becoming more involved in their lives. I really loved the food fight scene with everyone. It was so fun! I wanted to be in that food fight!

Jeff was watching Idol while I was trying to watch this movie on my phone. He kept giving me funny looks while I was literally laughing out loud. He probably thought I was losing it. Nothing new there 🙂 But there were so many funny lines and cute moments. There’s a good chance you’ll like this if you give it a try. Happy movie watching y’all!

Movie Review: It Was Always You

Image via: https://www.hallmarkchannel.com/it-was-always-you

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lizzy, I love you! You’re cute, quirky, organized, awkward, and most importantly…you love lists!

My family has often joked that I’ve had a list since the day I was born. They weren’t wrong. The most recent list looked something like:

Graduate college
Find a job
Marry an awesome man
Buy a house
Have Dogs
Have Kids

List making fills my soul with happiness. And yup, I’m doing good with my current list, but that’s not why we’re here…we’re here to talk about this movie!

Lizzy’s list making makes it seem like George would be a good fit. George is Mr. Safety man. He’s risk averse, which makes everything he does predictable and reliable and easy to plan, but also incredibly boring and dull.

I LOVED his reaction to having Oysters! Oh George, so predictable. Of course you wouldn’t eat oysters. Of course you would wonder how many people die from eating raw Oysters per year.

FYI – Google says about 100 people per year die in the US from eating raw oysters.

List makers and organizers DO NOT need Georges in their life. They need people who will help them let go, laugh, dance, be spontaneous, and forget their lists – but only sometimes because sometimes lists are necessary. List makers need someone like David!

David who pretended to pass out due to a peanut allergy. Who tells you you’re a neopolitan sundae. Or takes blame for something he didn’t do to protect Lizzy. Or keeps a rabbit foot as a reminder of the girl he secretly loves. List makers need Davids in their life.

It’s no surprise then that David and Lizzy wind up needing to plan her and George’s wedding and in doing so, Lizzy realizes what she’s missing in her relationship.

There were so many cute jokes and scenes in this movie! Oh, and the music! Hallmark has really upped their music prowess this year. You are So Beautiful is one of my favorite songs. Jeff and I sing it to our dog Ella all the time.

Overall, this movie is really good and sweet. The ending had a little “Arg! Why’d you do that?!” moment, but I’m going to forgive it. I get why they did what they did. Even though it wasn’t how I wanted to see it play out, it still had a Hallmark happily ever after. Give this movie a try y’all! Happy movie watching!!
